Supported Applications

The Mini Oxygen Sensor Hose Connection (SO-E3-xxx) measures oxygen (O₂) concentration using a limiting-current zirconium dioxide (ZrO₂) sensor. Across the family, full-scale ranges span from 1% to 96% O₂, giving one compact platform for both trace-oxygen and high-concentration measurement.

The sensor offers high accuracy with stable characteristics across its range, a signal that is not affected by temperature, and minimal interference from other gases. Combined with a long service life (MTTF typical 10 years) and single-point lifetime calibration, this makes it well suited to continuous oxygen monitoring in gas-analysis instrumentation. Operation outside the specified measuring range can cause permanent damage to the electrode, so range selection is important.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The measuring principle is a limiting-current zirconium dioxide sensor. Response time (t90) is < 5 seconds after a minimum 30 s warm-up. Power is supplied at 6-25VDC, nominal 12VDC, with a heater voltage of 3.6 volts and a cold resistance of R(25°C) = 3.25 Ω ± 0.25 Ω.

During operation the housing surface temperature stays below 70 °C, while the maximum permissible operating temperature is 350 °C depending on assembly. The sensor is built in a TO8 housing with a hose connection and measures Ø 15,3 mm; H = 23,9 mm; pin distance 7,18 mm; hose connection Ø 4,8 mm. Sensors meet the European Norm EN60068-2-6 for sinusoidal vibration.

An optional electronics control board with industry-standard outputs is available. The Generic Sensor Board (GSB) provides a standard connection for board or cable-mount sensors, with a 6-25VDC supply and linear outputs of 0-5VDC, 4-20mA and digital RS232.

Configuration Options

Variants differ by measuring range, and with the range come matching output current, accuracy and sensor bias voltage:

  • SO-E3-010 — 0.01% to 1.0% O₂, accuracy ± 100 ppm O₂, at 0.75 volt bias.
  • SO-E3-020 — 0.01% to 2.0% O₂, accuracy ± 200 ppm O₂, at 0.75 volt bias.
  • SO-E3-050 — 0.05% to 5.0% O₂, accuracy ± 500 ppm O₂, at 0.80 volt bias.
  • SO-E3-250 — 0.10% to 25.0% O₂, accuracy ± 0.25% O₂, at 0.85 volt bias.
  • SO-E3-960 — 1.00% to 96.0% O₂, accuracy ± 1.00% O₂, at 1-1.6 volt bias.

Output current also scales with range: the lower ranges deliver 150 µA - 250 µA, the SO-E3-250 delivers 100 µA - 200 µA, and the high-range SO-E3-960 delivers 15 µA - 30 µA. Reproducibility ranges from < 100 ppm O₂ on the trace ranges to < 0.2% O₂ on the widest range.

Key Product Differences

The series is ordered by measuring-range code:

  • SO-E3-010 — 0.01% to 1.0% O₂.
  • SO-E3-020 — 0.01% to 2.0% O₂.
  • SO-E3-050 — 0.05% to 5.0% O₂.
  • SO-E3-250 — 0.10% to 25.0% O₂.
  • SO-E3-960 — 1.00% to 96.0% O₂.

All variants share the same TO8 hose-connection housing, ZrO₂ measuring principle and pin connection (H+, H-, Sen+, Sen-), so selection is driven entirely by the oxygen range to be measured.
