Supported Applications
The Dwyer Model MSCS Miniature Current Switch is a low-cost solution for monitoring the on and off status of light to medium current loads in compact spaces. This unit features a split core design with a fixed set point of 0.15 amps, designed to detect changes in operating current to prevent motor belt loss, slippage, or mechanical failure.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The Model MSCS operates within an ambient temperature range of 5 to 140°F (-15 to 60°C) and a humidity limit of 0 to 95%, non-condensing. The device is self-powered with no external power requirements, operating at frequencies of 50/60 Hz. It provides an isolation voltage rating of 300 VAC RMS.
Performance specifications include:
- Amperage Range: 0.15 to 60 A
- Output Signal: NO (Normally Open)
- Enclosure Rating: UL 94 V-0 flammability rated, ABS plastic housing
- Agency Approvals: CE, cULus
Configuration Options
The series is currently represented by the MSCS-220015 model. The unit utilizes a split core design to accommodate conductors without breaking the circuit. Electrical connections are made via a Digital Input (DI) terminal with a maximum terminal voltage of 30 VAC.
Physical dimensions for the ABS plastic housing include:
- Height: 1-9/16 in [39.37]
- Width: 1-3/16 in [30.16] (front view) / 1-23/32 in [43.69] (side view)
- Depth: 27/32 in [21.08]
The unit includes mounting holes with a diameter of 3/16 in [04.57] and spacing of 2XØ 3/16 in [04.57]. For applications requiring lower current detection, the cable may be wrapped multiple times through the sensing hole; however, users must derate the maximum current capacity using the formula: New Maximum Current = MSCS-220015 Current Rating ÷ Number of turns.
Key Product Differences
The Model-MSCS series is defined by a single fixed set point configuration. The available model, MSCS-220015, provides the specified 0.15 A threshold and NO output signal as documented in the primary data sheet.
