Supported Applications

The Dwyer Model KFD0 is a loop-powered galvanic barrier designed to provide complete isolation for communication with intrinsically safe transmitters approved for use in hazardous areas. The series is specifically used to isolate voltages for HHT series applications, eliminating the need for a high integrity earth ground required by shunt type diode safety barriers.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Model KFD0 operates within an ambient temperature range of -4 to 140°F (-20 to 60°C) with a specified temperature drift of ≤ 0.5 µA/°C. It is designed for loop-powered operation, requiring no external power supply.

  • Signal Range: Hazardous area input supports 4-20 mA (linear transmission 1-22 mA); safe area output provides a 4-20 mA signal range with transmitter voltage ≤ 30 VDC.
  • Voltage Requirements: Available transmitter voltage is ≥ 16 V for supply voltages > 21 V; the model supports up to 23.1 V (Vo) and 38.2 mA (Io).
  • Response Time: ≤ 20 µs at 0 load, and ≤ 600 µs at 800 load.
  • Power Dissipation: Maximum power dissipation is 150 mW @ 20 mA and V <24 V.

Configuration Options

The series supports DIN rail mounting on most standard rails. The physical dimensions are a height of 4-3/8 [111.20], width of 4-37/64 [116.46], and depth of 25/32 [20.00].

  • Approvals: CE, FM APPROVED (Class I, Zone 1, Groups IIC, IIB, IIA; Class I, II, III, Div. 2, Groups A, B, C, D, F, G).
  • Hazardous Area Parameters: Configured for Group IIC (A, B), IIB (C), and IIA (D, F, G) with capacitance values of 0.042 µF, 0.267 µF, or 0.267 µF and inductance values of 0.5 mH, 2.5 mH, or 2.5 mH.
  • Accessories: Aluminum DIN rail (Model A-360) is available for mounting support.

Key Product Differences

The primary configuration in the series is Model KFD0-SCS-EX1.55, described as a loop-powered galvanic barrier compatible with Dwyer Series HHT-IX transmitters. This model provides specific electrical limits for hazardous area isolation without requiring external power.
