Supported Applications

The LLC Series from SST Sensing comprises optical liquid level switches designed for industrial applications requiring point-level detection. These sensors operate on an optical principle to detect the presence or absence of fluid at a specific sensing tip location.

Operating Conditions & Performance

Performance parameters vary by model family within the series, covering distinct voltage and temperature envelopes:

  • Voltage Supply Ranges: 3.3 to 24 VDC (Optomax Basic), 4.5 to 15.4 VDC (Optomax Digital/Industrial/Glass, LLHP), 8 to 30 VDC (Optomax Industrial/Glass), 10 to 45 VDC (LLHP), and 12 to 28 VDC (LLHT).
  • Temperature Ranges: -25 to +80°C, -40 to +125°C, -25 to 100°C, or -40 to +140°C depending on the specific switch model.
  • Output Current Capacity: Up to 4mA (Optomax Basic), up to 800mA (LLHP), up to 1A (Optomax Industrial/Glass, LLHT variants listed as N-Type/P-Type/ Push Pull in table context but current limit varies by row).

Installation constraints are critical for reliable operation. Do not immerse the wires in fluid, install the switch suspended from the cable, or exert excessive tensile force on the cable. Mounting positions where ambient light points directly at the sensing tip should be avoided to prevent false readings.

Configuration Options

The series supports multiple output configurations and logic states tailored to different control requirements:

  • Output Types: Push Pull, N-Type, P-Type, PWM (Optomax Digital), and Phototransistor output.
  • Logic States: High in Air / Low in Air configurations are available across Optomax Industrial/Glass, LLHP, and LLHT models. The Optomax Digital also supports a "High in Air Low in Air PWM" logic state.
  • Electrical Connections: Wiring colors vary by model (e.g., Red: Vs; Green: Output; Blue: 0V for standard configurations). Alternative connection options include Brad Harrison connectors available as an alternative to cable or flying lead options.

The Optomax Basic is designed primarily for price-sensitive, high-volume OEM applications and does not supply a power source or microcontroller with the switch. For requirements outside listed specifications, SST Sensing offers custom discussion capabilities.

Key Product Differences

Differences within the LLC Series are defined by model family characteristics:

  • Optomax Digital: Operates on 4.5 to 15.4 VDC with output current up to 100mA; supports Push Pull and PWM outputs.
  • Optomax Industrial & Glass: Supports wider voltage ranges (up to 30 VDC) and higher currents (Up to 1A); available in N-Type, P-Type, or Push Pull configurations. The Optomax Industrial Glass variant is specified for -40 to +125°C.
  • LLHP: Supports voltage ranges up to 45 VDC with output current up to 800mA; offers N-Type, P-Type, and Push Pull outputs.
  • LLHT: Operates on 12 to 28 VDC with output current up to 200mA; provides N-Type or P-Type outputs.
  • Optomax Basic: Designed for OEM integration, providing a Phototransistor output (4mA) requiring external interfacing by the customer system.
