Supported Applications
The Omega ST Series comprises high-performance microstepping digital step motor drivers designed for motion control applications. The series includes the ST5-S, ST10-S, and their Si variants (ST5-Si, ST10-Si), which provide configurable idle current reduction, fault protection, and stand-alone programming capabilities on Si models. These drives support multi-axis system integration via the SiNet™ Hub 444.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series operates within an ambient temperature range of 0 to 55°C (32 to 158°F) and a humidity rating of 90% non-condensing. Power supply requirements differ by model: the ST5-S and ST5-Si operate on external 24 to 48 Vdc, while the ST10-S and ST10-Si require external 24 to 80 Vdc.
Motor current output is defined as follows:
- ST5-S / ST5-Si: Up to 5 amps/phase (peak of sine)
- ST10-S / ST10-Si: Up to 10 amps/phase (peak of sine)
The drives feature software-selectable resolution from 200 to 51,200 steps/rev in increments of 200 steps/rev. They accept analog signals, digital signals, and RS-232 serial commands.
Configuration Options
The ST Series offers a range of configurable options including external control via pulse/direction or analog command signals, host communication via RS232/485, and encoder feedback on specific models. The series supports DIN rail mounting through interface modules (DSUB-9-MF, DSUB-25-MF) and includes optical isolation for digital inputs.
Key configurable features include:
- Sensor/Feedback Options: Encoder option available on Si models (e.g., ST5-Si-ENC).
- Communication Protocols: RS232 standard; RS485 optional via specific model suffixes.
- Housing Dimensions:
- ST5-S and ST10-S: 86 mm (3.39 in) x 76 mm (3.0 in) x 93 mm (3.65 in)
- ST5-Si and ST10-Si: 120 mm (4.74 in) x 76 mm (3.0 in) x 127 mm (5.0 in)
- I/O Connectivity: DB-25 I/O connector with an optional OMBOB-1 Breakout Box.
The drives are manufactured in the USA and comply with CE and RoHS standards. Configuration software is included, while power supplies must be ordered separately (e.g., OMPS150A24 for ST5 series; OMPS300A48 for ST10 series).
Key Product Differences
The primary distinction within the series lies between the standard models and those equipped with the Si Programmer™. The "S" suffix denotes a performance stepper drive (e.g., ST5-S, ST10-S), while the "Si" suffix indicates inclusion of the Si Programmer™ for stand-alone programming.
Further variations are defined by optional features appended to the model number:
- -485: Adds RS485 communication capability (e.g., ST5-Si-485).
- -ENC: Includes encoder option for feedback control (e.g., ST10-Si-ENC).
The series also supports specific motor regeneration clamp options, such as the OMRC-050, which is recommended when using NEMA 17 motors at speeds greater than 30 rps, NEMA 23 motors at speeds greater than 10 rps, or NEMA 34 motors at speeds greater than 4 rps.
