Supported Applications
The CDH45 is a handheld digital salinity meter that measures salinity and temperature simultaneously through an integral probe, with automatic temperature compensation and a dual display. It is built for low-concentration salinity measurement and reads out relative salinity alongside a precision thermistor temperature reading.
Typical applications include:
- Water monitoring and holding tanks.
- Seawater-prepared food solutions.
- Breeding ponds and aquariums.
Convenience features include average calculation, interval measuring, a gram conversion function, and a lightweight handheld body. The meter is marked CE and UKCA and is manufactured to ISO 9001 and ISO 9002 certified quality systems. For accurate readings, turn on the meter before placing the probe into the salt solution, and rinse the probe thoroughly with tap water after each use.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The CDH45 measures relative salinity from 0.1 to 10% and temperature over -20 to 60°C (-4 to 140°F), with a temperature resolution of 0.1°C (0.1°F). Automatic temperature compensation operates from -5 to 60°C (23 to 140°F).
Salinity accuracy tightens and loosens across the range, stated by band:
- ±0.1 from 0 to 0.9%
- ±0.2 from 1.0 to 1.9%
- ±0.3 from 2.0 to 2.9%
- ±0.5 from 3.0 to 4.9%
- ±1.0 from 5.0 to 7.9%
- ±1.5 from 8.0 to 10.0%, depending on measuring technique
Temperature accuracy is ±0.5°C (±1°F) from 0 to 45°C and ±1°C (±2°F) across the outer bands of -20 to 0°C and 45 to 60°C. The meter operates from 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F) at <75% RH and stores at -20 to 60°C (-4 to 140°F) at 0 to 80% RH with the batteries removed. Reference conditions are 18 to 28°C at <75% RH.
Configuration Options
The CDH45 is a single-configuration instrument, so its capabilities come from its integrated feature set rather than from model-to-model differences. It combines a salinity channel with a highly accurate thermistor temperature sensor on one display, and it applies automatic polarity handling with a negative-polarity indication.
Measurement aids include average calculation, interval measuring and a gram conversion mode, and a low-battery indicator warns when the battery voltage drops below the operating level. The instrument runs on three 1.5 V "AAA" batteries, giving around 100 hours of battery life.
Key Product Differences
The model number follows the guide CDH45 - <Model> - <Description>. The orderable line is compact:
- CDH45 - salinity meter with integral probe.
- MN2400 - replacement "AAA" battery (3 required).
Each CDH45 comes complete with 3 "AAA" batteries, the probe and the operator's manual. The meter body measures 167 H x 48 W x 24 mm D (6.5 x 3.0 x 1.5") and weighs 330 g (0.6 lb) with probe and batteries, while the probe itself is 177 mm (7.0") long on a 0.8 m (34") cable.
