Supported Applications
The Omega EchoPulse® LR10 Series is a general-purpose, two-wire pulse radar level transmitter designed for continuous liquid level measurement in chemical or water storage applications. The series operates by emitting microwave pulses and measuring the time of flight to provide a proportional current signal. Documented use cases include corrosive media environments, light agitation conditions, condensation, and vapor presence.
Specific application contexts supported across the broader LR Series family (LR10 through LR30) encompass:
- Corrosive liquids under simple process conditions
- Storage tanks & process tanks under difficult or extremely difficult process conditions
- Aggressive liquids in storage and process tanks
- Water processing, lift stations, storm water, and sump processes
The LR10 model is suitable for non-contact sensing in above-grade metal or reinforced concrete tanks, as well as below-grade tanks of any material. Typical installations include chemical bulk storage and tanker trucks.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The EchoPulse® series utilizes pulse radar technology operating at 26 GHz for the LR10, LR15, LR20, and LR30 models, while the LR25 model operates at 6.3 GHz. The measurement range varies by specific sensor configuration:
- LR10: Up to 32.8' (10m)
- LR15: Up to 98.42 feet (30m)
- LR20: Up to 65.61 feet (20m)
- LR25: Up to 114.83 feet (35m)
- LR30: Up to 98.42 feet (30m)
Accuracy specifications are model-dependent, with the LR10 rated at ±5 mm and other series members ranging from ±3 mm to ±10 mm depending on the configuration. The resolution is specified as 1 mm for the family.
Process temperature limits vary by sensor type:
- LR10: F: -40° to 266°, C: -40° to 130°
- LR15: F: -76° to 302°, C: -60° to 150°
- LR20 & LR25: F: -40° to 302°, C: -40° to 150° (Note: LR25 table lists process temp as F: -40° to 266°, C: -40° to 130° in one row and F: -40° to 302°, C: -40° to 150° in another; the series-specific primary source for LR10 confirms its specific range).
- LR30: F: -40° to 212°, C: -40° to 100°
The storage temperature across all models is F: -40° to 176°, C: -40° to 80°. Pressure ratings range from atmospheric (LR30) up to -14.5 to 580 psi (-1 to 40 bar) for the LR25, with intermediate limits of -14.5 to 43.5 psi (-1 to 3 bar) for the LR10 and -14.5 to 72.5 psi (-1 to 5 bar) for the LR20.
Enclosure ratings are IP67 (NEMA 6) for the LR10, LR15, LR20, and LR25 series, while the LR30 is rated IP68 (NEMA 6P). The dead band is factory set at 12" (30.48cm), though it can be lowered to 2" from the bottom of the antenna.
Configuration Options
The LR Series offers configurable dimensions and materials tailored to specific process requirements, including mounting style, wetted parts material, and output signal behavior.
Housing & Wetted Materials
- LR10: Aluminum housing with silicone gasket, PBT FR neck & wrench flat. Antenna is encapsulated in PFA.
- LR15: 316L SS antenna available with horn sizes of 2" (48mm), 3" (78mm), or 4" (98mm).
- LR20 & LR25: 316L SS with PTFE cover.
- LR30: PA66 housing and antenna, suitable for water processing applications.
Mounting & Connections
- NPT Threaded Mounts: LR10 features a 1-1/2" NPT process connection. The series supports various reducer bushings (PVC schedule 40 and 80) for adaptation.
- Flange Mounts: Available on LR20 (3" or 4" ANSI flange), LR25 (4" or 6" ANSI flange).
- Conduit/Bracket Mounts: The LR30 supports bracket mounting or top-mounted installation via a 1" conduit.
Electrical & Output
The series provides a standard two-wire output of 4-20 mA. Fail-safe settings are configurable to 20.5mA, 22mA, or no change (for LR10 specifically: 3.9 mA, 20.5 mA, 22 mA). The signal can be inverted to 4-20 mA, 20-4 mA.
Power supply requirements are 16-26 VDC with a maximum consumption of 22.5mA. Electrical connections include dual cable entries (½" NPT with adapter, M20x1.5) for most models and one cable entry (1" NPT) for the LR30.
Approvals & Compliance
The series holds cTUVus (UL 61010-1:2012), FCC, CE [EN61326], and RoHS certifications. Specific FCC compliance varies by model:- Class A (Part 15.209): LR10, LR15 (2" horn), and LR25 are restricted to metal or reinforced concrete tanks.
- Class B (Part 15.256): LR15 (3" & 4" horns), LR20, and LR30 can be installed in any tank material.
Key Product Differences
The EchoPulse® family distinguishes models primarily by measurement range, beam angle, antenna construction, and mounting interface to address varying process difficulties.- LR10: Designed for simple corrosive conditions with a 32.8' (10m) max range, 22° beam angle, PFA antenna, and threaded NPT mount.
- LR15: Offers extended ranges up to 98.42 feet (30m) for difficult process conditions using a 316L SS horn antenna with selectable beam angles of 18°, 12°, or 8° depending on the horn size.
