Supported Applications
The Omega FP7000 series, specifically the FP7001A model, is a fixed-length insertion paddlewheel flow and temperature meter designed for monitoring typical industrial water flows. The sensor accommodates hard-to-handle corrosive aqueous solutions and high purity fluids using polypropylene bodies with 316SS shafts.
Applications are restricted to non-flammable, non-hazardous liquids up to 5 centipoise viscosity. The FP7001A is not explosion-proof or intrinsically safe; it must not be used for flammable or hazardous liquids nor in hazardous areas. Additionally, the sensor is intended only for water and low-viscosity liquids and cannot measure oils or other viscous materials.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The FP7001A measures flow rates from 2 to 460 GPM depending on the fitting size, with a temperature measurement range of 2° to 150°C (36° to 302°F). Flow accuracy is specified as ±2% of full scale, while temperature accuracy is ±1°C. Repeatability for flow measurements is ±1% of full scale.
Pressure ratings are dependent on the fitting material and process temperature. For PVC tee fittings, do not exceed 150 psig at 27°C (80°F), with derating to 100 psig at 38°C (100°F), 60 psig at 49°C (120°F), and 30 psig at 60°C (140°F). The sensor requires a minimum flow velocity of one fps. Minimum GPM requirements vary by pipe size: ¾" = 1.5 GPM; 1" = 3 GPM; 1¼" = 4.5 GPM; 1½" = 6.5 GPM; 2" = 10.5 GPM; 2½" = 15 GPM; and 3" = 23 GPM.
Configuration Options
The series provides simultaneous flow and temperature measurement via a paddlewheel rotor converted to an electrical signal by an open collector Hall Effect sensor. A built-in solid-state temperature sensor delivers the thermal output.
- Output Signals: High-level square wave pulse (5 to 18 V amplitude) for flow; TTL level pulse when powered by FPW-5, and a 10 mV/°C analog voltage output for temperature.
- Power Supply: Operates on 5 to 18 Vdc @ 10 mA maximum. The FPW-15 (120 Vac converter) provides 15 Vdc at 400 mA, and the FLSC-100 transmitter module is available.
- Process Connections: Compatible with Schedule 40 PVC tee fittings or galvanized iron tee fittings. NPT pipe sizes range from 3/4 to 3 inches. Each system includes a locking nut (PVC for PVC tees, brass for galvanized iron).
- Wetted Materials: The FP7001A sensor features a polypropylene body, PVDF paddle, FKM O-ring, and 316SS shaft. Galvanized iron tees include brass inserts; PVC tees use PVC inserts.
Key Product Differences
The FP7001A is the primary model in this series, configured with a polypropylene body and 316SS shaft including a temperature sensor. The system requires ordering as a matched transmitter/fitting set; each unit comes factory calibrated.
Installation fittings are specific to pipe size and material type (PVC or Galvanized Iron). Models include FP7007 through FP7030 for PVC applications and corresponding -GI suffix models for galvanized iron. The series is not compatible with FP-5300, FMG-5300 Series installation fittings, nor the FPM 5500/5740.
