Supported Applications

The FMG3000 and FMG3100 Series are insertion-style electromagnetic (OMEGAMAG®) flow meters that measure the flow rate in a full pipe by monitoring the voltage a conductive fluid produces as it moves through a magnetic field. With no moving parts to foul or wear, they are especially well suited to dirty liquids and other conductive media where turbine or paddle-wheel devices struggle. A minimum conductivity of 20 µS/cm is required for reliable measurement.

Built from corrosion-resistant polypropylene, these fixed-depth insertion sensors install into pipes from 0.5 to 8 inches using a wide choice of fittings — plastic and fiberglass tees, PVC glue-on and strap-on saddles, threaded tees in iron, carbon steel or 316 SS, weld-on Weldolets, and metric union fittings. Automatic sensor alignment and insertion-depth setting simplify commissioning. Typical uses include water and wastewater lines, chemical process flows, irrigation, and utility monitoring wherever a conductive fluid fills the pipe.

The meters offer a choice of a 4 to 20 mA loop output or a frequency output, so they integrate readily with PLCs, dataloggers, and dedicated readouts such as the CNi833 ½ DIN controller or the DPF701 ½ DIN frequency input meter. Before installation, always depressurize and vent the system and confirm chemical compatibility of the wetted materials.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series measures bidirectional flow over a velocity range of 0.05 to 5 m/s (0.15 to 16.4 ft/s) across pipe sizes of 0.5 to 8 in. Accuracy is ±1% rdg ±0.01 m/s (0.033 ft/s), with repeatability of ±0.5% of rdg @ 25°C (77°F).

Environmental ratings suit permanent outdoor and plant installation:

The 4 to 20 mA output runs on 21.6 to 26.4 Vdc drawing 22.1 mA maximum, into a maximum loop resistance of 300 Ω, while the frequency version runs on 4.5 to 26.4 Vdc at 15 mA maximum and is reverse-polarity and short-circuit protected. Both outputs support cable runs up to 300 m (1000'). The sensor body and electrodes use Polypropylene/316L SS with an FPM (FKM) O-ring as standard. Certifications include CE, ISO 9001 and ISO 9002.

Configuration Options

The eight models differ along three axes — pipe-size range, output type, and whether a local display is fitted. The FMG3000 (3001/3002) models serve pipes from 0.5 to 4 in, while the FMG3100 (3101/3102) models cover the larger 5 to 8 in range; for sizes beyond this, engineering should be consulted.

Within each size class, the choice of output distinguishes the models: the FMG3001-PP and FMG3101-PP provide a frequency output, whereas the FMG3002-PP and FMG3102-PP provide a 4 to 20 mA output. Any model can be ordered with an integral display by adding the -D suffix. Display units are physically taller — 171 mm (6.73 in) in height versus 138 mm (5.43 in) for the 94 mm (3.7 in)-wide sensor without a display — and they add three relays (two SPDT plus one solid-state) for on-board switching and totalization. All wetted constructions share Polypropylene/316L SS, and O-rings can be upgraded from the standard FPM to EPR (EPDM) or FFPM perfluoroelastomer.

Installation fittings are selected separately by pipe size and material (PVC, CPVC, PVDF, polypropylene, stainless 316, galvanized iron, carbon steel, and copper/bronze), and O-ring accessories are available as the FPP-1220-0021 (FPM), FPP-1224-0021 (EPR/EPDM), and FPP-1228-0021 (FFPM perfluoroelastomer).
