Supported Applications

The Dynament FGD10B is an explosion-protected fixed gas detector designed for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. The series provides detection capabilities for Oxygen, Toxic gases (including Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen Sulphide), Flammable hydrocarbons, and Carbon Dioxide. It is certified for deployment in hazardous locations requiring flameproof protection.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The FGD10B operates within a typical ambient temperature range of -20 to +40 °C, varying by sensor type. The enclosure maintains an IP68 rating with the sensor rated at IP65. Humidity tolerance is specified as 0 to 95% RH non-condensing. Operating pressure is atmospheric ±10%. Power requirements are met via a supply of 8 to 24 volts dc, drawing a maximum input power of 5 Watts.

Performance metrics depend on the selected sensor technology and range:

  • Resolution: Flammable gases offer 1% LEL or 1% volume; Electrochemical toxic gases provide 0.1ppm for FSD < 50ppm and 1-12ppm for FSD 50-1000ppm; CO2 resolution is 10ppm (FSD < 10000ppm), 0.1% (FSD ≤5%), or 1% (FSD > 5%); Oxygen resolution is 0.1% volume.
  • Response Time: Sensor response times vary according to the sensor type.

Configuration Options

The series supports multiple measurement technologies and gas types, configured through specific sensor selections. The instrument body is available in Aluminium Pressure Die Casting or Stainless Steel 316. Cable entries are provided as 2 x 20mm or ½” NPT or ¾” NPT.

Measurement Technologies & Ranges

  • Infrared (NDIR): Used for Carbon Dioxide and Flammable gases. CO2 ranges include 0-500ppm through 0-100% Vol; Flammable ranges cover 0-100% LEL or 0-100% Vol.
  • Electrochemical: Used for Oxygen, Carbon Monoxide, and Hydrogen Sulphide. Ranges include 0-21% O2; CO from 0-50ppm to 0-1000ppm; H2S from 0-50ppm to 0-200ppm.
  • Pellistor: Used for Flammable gas detection (ranges: 0-100% LEL or 0-100% Vol).

Hazardous Area Certification & Temperature Codes

The series holds IECEx SIR 08.0009X and SIRA 08ATEX1031X certifications with Code Ex d IIC, compliant with EN 60079-0:2018 and EN 60079-1:2014 standards for Zones 1 & 2. Temperature codes are defined as:

  • T4 (Ta -20 °C to +60 °C)
  • T5 (Ta -20 °C to +50 °C) – not applicable to infrared versions.
  • T6 (Ta -20 °C to +35 °C) – not applicable to infrared versions.

Outputs & Accessories

The standard analogue output is 4 to 20mA with 10 bit resolution. Optional accessories include a purpose-designed Configuration Unit (Keypad SS748) for calibration and diagnostics, Sampling Adaptors for gas application, and an optional Weather Guard constructed from Stainless Steel Grade 304 & Nylon 66.

Key Product Differences

The FGD10B series distinguishes itself by sensor technology (Infrared vs. Electrochemical/Pellistor) which dictates the applicable temperature codes and measurement ranges. The Infrared version weighs 1.25Kg, while Oxygen, Toxic, and Pellistor versions weigh 1 Kg; the optional Weatherguard adds 225 grams. A display version with control relays is offered as a separate model (FGD10A). Calibration procedures differ based on configuration: units may be calibrated using internal ZERO/SPAN buttons or via the external Configuration Unit.
