Supported Applications

The Omega OM-CP-SHOCK Series comprises the OM-CP-ULTRASHOCK-A and OM-CP-SHOCK300, which are tri-axial shock/acceleration data loggers designed for documenting dynamic environments. Documented applications include monitoring moving vehicles, trucks, containers, and ships. The series is also specified for characterizing production and assembly lines handling delicate electronics, IC fabrication, communications components, and computer components.

The OM-CP-ULTRASHOCK-A extends functionality beyond shock measurement by including additional channels for temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure. Each of the six available channels may be made active or inactive as needed; disabling unused channels provides additional storage capacity to the enabled parameters.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series operates within an ambient environment of -20 °C to +60 °C and 0 %RH to 95 %RH non-condensing. The enclosure is rated IP64 with a housing constructed from anodized aluminum. Power is supplied by an internal Lithium Ion pack, offering typical battery life of 90 days at a 64 Hz rate.

Shock measurement performance varies by selected range:

  • ±15 g Range: Resolution of 0.02 g, calibrated accuracy of ±0.3 g, and frequency response >1000 Hz.
  • ±100 g Range: Resolution of 0.05 g, calibrated accuracy of ±2.0 g, and frequency response >500 Hz.
  • ±300 g Range: Resolution of 0.2 g, calibrated accuracy of ±6.0 g, and frequency response >500 Hz.

The OM-CP-SHOCK300 supports a shock sampling rate of 1000 Hz with selectable reading rates from 1024 Hz to 5 minutes via software. The OM-CP-ULTRASHOCK-A adds environmental performance specifications: temperature accuracy is ±0.5 °C (+5 °C to +60 °C) with 0.1 °C resolution; humidity accuracy is ±3 %RH (typical ±2 %RH at 25 °C) within a specified range of +20 °C to +40 °C and 25 %RH to 75 %RH; pressure accuracy is ±1.5 mbar at 25 °C/750 mbar with a measurement range of 100 mbar to 1300 mbar.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable operation through software, including immediate start or delayed start modes up to 6 months in advance. Real-time recording is supported via PC connection at a 1 second sample rate. Data storage capacity totals 3,593,358 readings (approximately 598,893 per channel when all channels are active).

Key configurable and physical attributes include:

  • Sensor Technology: MEMS Semiconductor accelerometers; Capacitive Polymer humidity sensor; Semiconductor temperature sensor; Semiconductor Strain Gage pressure sensor.
  • Data Output & Interface: USB-C cable required (included) with 1MBaud communication. Data formats include date/time-stamped gravities, temperature in °C/°F/K/°R, humidity in %RH/mg/ml water vapor concentration, and pressure units including PSIA, inHg, mmHg, bar, atm, Torr, Pa, kPa, MPa.
  • Security & Calibration: Optional password protection restricts access to configuration options. Digital calibration is performed through software with the date automatically recorded within the device.
  • Physical Dimensions: 3.4 in x 1.7 in x 1.3 in (86 mm x 43 mm x 33 mm); weight of 8 oz (227 g).

Key Product Differences

The series consists of two distinct models differentiated by sensor channel availability:

  • OM-CP-SHOCK300: A 3-axis shock/acceleration data logger. It features three channels for tri-axial shock measurement across the ±15 g, ±100 g, and ±300 g ranges.
  • OM-CP-ULTRASHOCK-A: Includes all capabilities of the SHOCK300 plus additional integrated sensors. This model provides six total channels: tri-axial shock (±15/100/300 g), temperature (-20 °C to +60 °C), humidity (0 %RH to 95 %RH), and barometric pressure (100 mbar to 1300 mbar).

Both models utilize separate low-g and high-g accelerometers to provide sensitivity up to 15 g or higher shock monitoring levels. One of the three operating ranges must be chosen during setup for a logging session.
