Supported Applications

The Omega HE559 Series SmartStix™ I/O modules are terminal-block style expansion units designed for use with the XL series Operator Control Station (OCS). These compact, DIN-rail mounted modules expand analog and digital I/O capacity via a CsCAN network. The series supports local or remote deployment to interface sensors and actuators in industrial control environments.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The HE559 Series provides high-resolution data acquisition with specific performance characteristics depending on the module type:

• Analog Inputs/Outputs: 14-bit resolution with an accuracy of 0.1% @ 25°C.
• Digital Input Response: 0 to 3 ms or less for both OFF-to-ON and ON-to-OFF transitions.
• Analog Output Switching: 2 mS response time (OFF to ON and ON to OFF).
• Relay Output Switching: Maximum of 10 mS (OFF to ON) and 12 mS max (ON to OFF).

The modules feature isolation ratings of 1000 Vdc IEC61010-1 / 300 VRMS for analog channels. Digital inputs utilize photo coupler isolation methods.

Configuration Options

The series offers a configurable envelope across digital, relay, and mixed-signal configurations to meet diverse process needs:

• I/O Types & Counts:
  • Digital Inputs: Models available with 16 or 32 DC inputs (HE559DIM).
  • Relay Outputs: Modules offering 16 relay outputs rated for 250 Vac, 30 Vdc, and 2 A.
  • Digital Outputs: Options include 16 or 32 DC outputs (24 Vdc positive logic, 0.5 A).
  • Mixed Analog/Digital: The HE559MIX577 provides 4 analog inputs and 2 analog outputs with channel-by-channel voltage/current selection.
• Analog Ranges: Supports ±5 V, ±10 Vdc, 4 to 20 mA, and ±20 mA DC for both input and output channels where applicable.
• Network & Connectivity: Communication occurs over a CsCAN bus using a 5-position terminal strip. The network supports up to 253 total nodes with a maximum distance of 457 m (1500') per segment; distances up to 1829 m (6000') are possible using repeaters.
• Protection & Features: Output modules include Electronic Short-Circuit Protection (ESCP). Status is indicated via LEDs for I/O points, power, module status, and network activity. Module ID is set using two rotary switches.

The HE559 Series distinguishes itself through specific model configurations that define physical dimensions and electrical capabilities:

• Digital Input Models (HE559DIM610, HE559DIM710): Provide 16 or 32 DC inputs respectively. The 16-point models measure approximately 115 L x 48 D x 50 mm H (4.5 x 1.9 x 2").
• Digital Output Models (HE559DQM606, HE559DQM706): Offer 16 or 32 DC outputs at 24 Vdc positive logic with a max load current of 0.5 A per output and 3 A per common.
• Relay Output Models (HE559DQM602): Provide 16 relay outputs capable of handling up to 2.0 A per channel and 5.0 A per common at resistive loads, with a minimum load requirement of 5 Vdc/1 mA.
• Mixed Analog Model (HE559MIX577): Combines analog I/O capabilities in a single unit featuring ±10V and ±20 mA ranges for inputs and outputs. This model, along with other 32-point or relay output modules, measures approximately 176 L x 48 D x 50 mm H (7 x 1.9 x 2").
• Certifications: CE certification applies to all models; UL marking is available for digital-only models.
