Supported Applications
The Omega PHE-4200 Series consists of gel-filled, combination pH electrodes designed for laboratory applications. The series covers the full measurement range from 0 to 14 pH and is intended for use across a process temperature span of 0 to 100°C (32 to 212°F). These clear epoxy-bodied sensors are supplied with an instruction sheet and stored in soaker bottles or rubber boots containing potassium chloride solution to maintain electrode moisture.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The PHE-4200 Series operates within a process temperature range of 0 to 100°C (32 to 212°F). The series achieves a response time where 95% is reached in less than 1 second. Each electrode features an Ag/AgCl reference system and utilizes a polypropylene liquid junction. At 25°C, the internal resistance for all models ranges from 50 to 80 MΩ.
Key Performance Specifications

Maintenance and Storage Requirements
To ensure electrode longevity, the PHE-4200 Series must be kept moist. Electrodes are shipped stored in a soaker storage bottle or rubber boot filled with potassium chloride solution; white crystals may form at the tip but should be dissolved by rinsing with distilled water before use. For long-term storage, electrodes should remain in their provided container. If the original solution evaporates, pH buffer 4.0 or pH buffer 7.0 is recommended for refilling. Distilled or deionized water must not be used for storage as it will drastically reduce electrode lifespan. Should an electrode dry out, soak it up to 2 hours in pH buffer 4.0 solution; extended drying periods may cause permanent damage.
Configuration Options
The series offers five distinct electrode styles configured for specific laboratory needs, all featuring a clear epoxy body and BNC connector standard. The available configurations include general purpose, double junction, flask size, flat surface double junction, and semi-micro designs.
Model Configurations
- PHE-4201: General purpose; 150 mm (6 in) length; 12 mm (0.47 in) diameter
- PHE-4202: Double junction; 150 mm (6 in) length; 12 mm (0.47 in) diameter
- PHE-4222: Flask size; 300 mm (12 in) length; 9.5 mm (0.37 in) diameter
- PHE-4272: Flat surface double junction; 150 mm (6 in) length; 12 mm (0.47 in) diameter
- PHE-4232: Semi-micro; 150 mm (6 in) length; 6 mm (0.24 in) diameter
All models include a Certificate of Quality guaranteeing adherence to stringent quality control standards and carry RoHS compliance. The series also supports the PHA-D1 accessory, a 500 ml (1 pint) bottle of deionized water.
Key Product Differences
Variants within the PHE-4200 Series differ primarily by physical dimensions and junction design to accommodate specific vessel geometries or sample volumes. The standard length is 150 mm (6 in) for most models, while the flask size variant extends to 300 mm (12 in). Diameters range from 6 mm (0.24 in) for semi-micro applications up to 12 mm (0.47 in) for general purpose and double junction styles.
Junction configurations vary between standard single-junction designs, double junctions for enhanced reference stability, and a flat surface design specifically engineered for measuring pH on solid or viscous surfaces. All variants share the same clear epoxy housing material, BNC electrical connection, and 750 mm (2.5') cable length.
