Supported Applications

The Omega OMDC-65 Series provides battery-operated DC motor speed control for heavy-duty permanent magnet DC motors. The series is designed to increase battery running time through high efficiency and includes automatic compensation for declining battery voltage. Documented applications include floor scrubbers, small personnel carriers, AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles), agricultural sprayers, and portable equipment.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series operates within an ambient temperature range of -10 to 45°C (14 to 113°F). Models feature a speed regulation of ±1% of base speed via adjustable I.R. Compensation trimpot and offer a speed range of 30:1. Continuous load current ratings vary by model, available in 10 Amps, 20 Amps, 40 Amps, or 60 Amps D.C.

Performance specifications include an overload capacity of 200% for 10 seconds and 150% for one minute. Current limit is adjustable from 100 to 200% of full motor load up to the continuous current rating. Acceleration is adjustable from 0 to 10 seconds, while deceleration is non-adjustable at 0.5 seconds. Maximum speed is adjustable between 50 and 100% of base speed, with minimum speed settable to 30% of max speed.

Thermal protection features current foldback at an 80°C (176°F) heatsink temperature on applicable models. The internal operating frequency is approximately 1.6K Hertz per the manual specifications or listed as 18K Hz in series data sheets depending on model configuration.

Configuration Options

The OMDC-65 Series supports multiple input and output voltage configurations to match battery systems:

  • Input Voltage Options: 12 Vdc ± 15%, 24 Vdc ± 15%, or 36 Vdc ± 15%.
  • Output Signal Ranges: 0 to 12 Vdc, 0 to 24 Vdc, or 0 to 36 Vdc corresponding to input voltage.

Speed adjustment is configurable via a standard 5 kΩ potentiometer (speedpot) with knob and dial plate included, or through an external 0 to +10VDC analog input signal. Electrical connections utilize a barrier terminal block accepting wire gauges from 12 Ga. to a maximum of 6 Ga.

Housing construction consists of black anodized aluminum extrusion. The series includes models with chassis mounting or enclosure configurations, with dimensions varying by current rating (e.g., OMDC-65E10 at 92 mm height × 108 mm width vs. OMDC-65E60 at 170 mm height × 229 mm width).

The series is differentiated by continuous current rating and voltage configuration, identified in the model number as OMDC-65E-, where represents the amperage (10, 20, 40, or 60) and indicates voltage range (-12 for 12 Vdc input/output; blank suffix denotes 24/36 Vdc interchangeability).

Voltage-specific variations include:

  • -12 Suffix Models (e.g., OMDC-65E40-12): Designed for 12 Vdc input with 0 to 12 Vdc output.
  • No-Suffix Models (e.g., OMDC-65E40): Accepts 24 or 36 Vdc input, providing 0 to 24/0 to 36 Vdc output. Units with the same current rating are interchangeable between 24 and 36 volt inputs.
