Supported Applications
The Omega OSAO-Series consists of adjustable output, ultra-fast response fixed infrared sensors with a built-in display. These two-piece non-contact temperature measurement systems are designed for industrial applications where the sensor head detects infrared radiation emitted by target objects and analyzes it via an internal microprocessor. The series is engineered to operate in environments subject to electromagnetic interference, as the sensor head remains unaffected.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The OSAO-Series covers measurement ranges from 0°C...800 °C (1472 °F) up to 350°C...1800 °C (3272 °F), dependent on the specific model and Field of View (FOV). Accuracy varies by family: OS-AO50-* models offer ± 1% of the measured value or 3°C whichever is greater; OS-AO50H-* models provide ±1.5% of the measured value or 2°C whichever is greater; and OS-AO250-* models achieve Below 1500°C : ±0.3% of the measured value +1°C, Above 1500°C : ±0.4% of the measured value +1°C.
Response times are adjustable up to 10 sec across all families, with base speeds of 20 msec for OS-AO50-*, 60 msec for OS-AO50H-*, and 2 msec for OS-AO250-* models. The electronic enclosure operates up to 70°C. Sensor head operating limits are up to 120 °C (248°F) for standard units, up to 180 °C (356°F) for high-temperature variants, and the sensor head is rated up to 70°C alongside the enclosure for OS-AO250-* models. Storage temperature ranges from -20°C...+70°C.
Configuration Options
The series supports three primary model families with distinct spectral responses and detector technologies:
- OS-AO50-*: 8...14 µm spectral response using a Thermopile photodetector. Features Field of View (FOV) options of 2:1 or 15:1.
- OS-AO50H-*: 8...14 µm spectral response with a Thermopile detector, offering the same FOV options as OS-AO50-* but designed for higher sensor head temperatures up to 180 °C (356°F).
- OS-AO250-*: 1.6 µm spectral response using an InGaAs photodetector. Supports high-resolution FOV options of 20 : 1, 40 : 1, or 80 : 1 and includes a Laser Pilot Light (PL) sighting option.
Output configurations include user-selectable analog signals: 0-20mA, 4-20mA, 0-10V, or Thermocouple Type "K" or "J". Digital outputs feature USB 2.0 and an optional RS-232/RS-485 interface card (only one digital output possible at a time). A relay output with hysteresis is available rated for 60V DC / 42V AC RMS, 0.4A.
Power supply requirements differ by model: OS-AO50-* and OS-AO50H-* accept 12V to 28V DC with reverse polarity protection, while OS-AO250-* requires 24V DC. The electronic enclosure is constructed of Zinc with an IP65 rating; the sensor head utilizes Stainless Steel.
Adjustable Parameters
Via software or keypad, users can configure Emissivity (ε), Response Time, Clear Time (Peak Picker), Analog Output scaling, Sub Range, Unit of Temperature (°C/°F), Communication mode, and Record features. Setpoint and Hysteresis are also adjustable via the keypad.
Key Product Differences
The OSAO-Series differentiates primarily by temperature range capability, spectral response wavelength, and sensor head thermal limits. The OS-AO50-* family targets lower ranges (0°C...800 °C) with a 14 µm thermopile detector suitable for general industrial use up to 120 °C ambient at the head. The OS-AO50H-* maintains similar optical characteristics but extends sensor head operation to 180 °C.
The OS-AO250-* family is distinct in its high-temperature capability (up to 1800°C), shorter spectral response (1.6 µm) using an InGaAs detector, and inclusion of a laser pilot light for targeting. While the electronic enclosure dimensions are consistent at 112.5mm x 82.5mm x 33mm across all models, the sensor head diameter is specified as 20 mm with an overall length of 45 mm for AO50/50H variants.
Optional accessories include water cooling jackets and air purge units specifically for OS-AO250-* models (OS-AO250-WCJ-AP, OS-AO250-AP), adjustable mounts for all families, communication converters (RS-232/RS-485), and dedicated power supplies.
