Supported Applications

The Omega XBUT4 Series is a modular feedthrough terminal block system designed for electrical distribution and connection in industrial control panels. The series supports Ex e (Increased Safety) applications within potentially explosive environments, specifically categorized for Equipment Group II with use in Gas and/or Dust Atmospheres (G D). The universal design allows different clamping technologies—screw, spring, and IDC—to share a flexible plug-in bridge system, enabling individual potential distribution or bridged connections across the same terminal block type.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The XBUT4 Series operates within an ambient temperature range of -40 to 125°C (-40 to 257°F). The housing is constructed from Polyamide 6.6, which provides a flammability rating of UL 94 V0 and meets the IP54 enclosure rating for Zone 1 and Zone 2 applications. Electrical performance specifications vary by standard: IEC 60947-7-1 ratings are listed as 800/41/26-10 (V/AWG), EN 50019 ratings are 750/30 or 38/26-10, and UL-cUL ratings are 600/30/26-10. The maximum wire size accommodated is 10 AWG/4 mm².

Insulation properties include a dielectric strength of 600 kV/cm, creep resistance of 600 CTI, internal insulation resistance of 10¹² Ω, and surface resistance of 10¹⁰ Ω. The metal components utilize high-grade copper alloys with lead-free galvanic nickel or tin plating to prevent electrolytic corrosion.

Configuration Options

The series is available in eight color-coded single-level connection variants: Gray (XBUT4), Blue (XBUT4BU), Orange (XBUT4OR), Yellow (XBUT4YE), Red (XBUT4RD), White (XBUT4WH), Black (XBUT4BK), and Green (XBUT4GN). The modular architecture supports a standardized range of accessories for marking, bridging, testing, and mounting.

Available options include:

• Bridges & Marking: Red plug-in bridges in 2, 3, 5, 10, and 50 positions (XBAFBS series); Gray end covers (XBACUT10) and partition plates (XBATUT10); 5.2 mm white blank marker strips (XBMZB6).
• Mounting: DIN rails in slotted or solid configurations for 35 x 7.5 mm and 35 x 15 mm profiles; End stops available as 1-screw, 3-screw, or snap-on types (XBAES series).
• Maintenance: Test adaptors (XBATSPA14) for circuit verification.

The terminal width is fixed at 6.2 mm with an overall length of 46.9 mm and cover width of 2.2 mm. Height dimensions vary by DIN rail profile: 47.5 mm (for 35 x 7.5) or 55.0 mm (for 35 x 15).

Key Product Differences

The primary variation within the XBUT4 Series is the housing color, which serves as a visual identifier for circuit organization; all variants share identical electrical ratings and mechanical dimensions. The series supports multi-conductor connections with varying cross-sections depending on wire type: solid or stranded wires from 0.14 to 1.5 mm², stranded with ferrules (without plastic sleeve) from 0.25 to 1.5 mm², and stranded with twin ferrule (with plastic sleeve) from 0.5 to 2.5 mm².

Certification markings differ based on regional standards: the series holds UL/cUL Recognition File no. E67464 and CE approval under LVD directives EN 60947-7-1, EN 60947-7-2, EN 60998-2-3, and EN 60352-4/A1. For hazardous locations, the series carries EU type-examination certificate number KEMA 05ATEX2158U for Ex e applications.
