Supported Applications

The OS836-Series is a high-performance handheld infrared thermometer for fast, non-contact temperature measurement. With a wide span of -50°C to 1550°C and a tight 30:1 field of view, it can read small or distant targets accurately, which suits it to industrial maintenance, electrical and mechanical inspection, HVAC work and process monitoring.

An adjustable emissivity from 0.10 to 1.00 lets the instrument be matched to a broad range of surfaces — from metals such as aluminium, brass, copper and steel to non-metals such as ceramic, concrete, glass, paper, plastic, rubber and even food. A built-in Type K thermocouple input extends its usefulness to contact measurement where a surface probe is preferred. The instrument should be protected from EMF produced by arc welders and induction heaters, and the laser must never be pointed at the eye.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The thermometer covers -50°C to 1550°C with a 30:1 field of view and an 8 to 14 µm spectral response. Accuracy is ±4.0°C from -50°C to 0°C, ±1.5% ± 2.0°C from 0°C to 500°C, and ±2.0% ± 2.0°C above 500°C, with repeatability of 1% of reading or 1°C.

Response time is <250 ms (95% response), and the unit stores 99 records. It operates over an ambient range of 0 to 50°C at 10 to 90% RH and is stored at -20 - 60is stored at -20 to 60°Cdeg;C. A class 2 diode laser marks the target, and power is from a 9V battery.

The instrument weighs 286g and measures 198 x 120 x 59 mm. For accurate readings the source data sheet advises allowing 30 minutes for the unit to stabilise after any large or abrupt change in ambient temperature. The series is CE marked.

Configuration Options

The series is offered as a single, fully featured configuration, so its capabilities are defined by its measurement modes rather than by a range of models:

  • Non-contact infrared — measures -50°C to 1550°C with a 30:1 field of view for reading small or hard-to-reach targets.
  • Type K thermocouple input — adds contact measurement using the supplied thermocouple.
  • Adjustable emissivity — 0.10 to 1.00, so readings can be corrected for different surface materials using the built-in emissivity reference.

Together the dual measurement modes, wide range and adjustable emissivity let one instrument serve applications that would otherwise need both an IR gun and a contact thermometer.

Key Product Differences

The series comprises a single model:

  • OS-836-301 — high-performance infrared thermometer, 30:1 FOV, -50 to 1550°C.

It comes complete with a Type K thermocouple, a 9V battery and an operator's manual, providing a ready-to-use non-contact and contact temperature kit out of the box.
