Supported Applications
The Omega SGD series comprises precision strain gages configured as delta rosettes with single-plane, planar compact geometry. These sensors feature a 0° - 60° - 120° orientation for measuring multi-directional strain in structural and mechanical testing applications.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series is available in miniature, medium, and large delta configurations with nominal resistances of 120 Ω or 350 Ω. Maximum permitted bridge energizing voltage (Vrms) varies by model pattern, resistance value, termination type, and temperature compensation material.
- Miniature Delta: Models SGD-1 support maximum voltages ranging from 3 Vrms to 8.5 Vrms depending on configuration.
- Medium Delta: Models SGD-3 support maximum voltages ranging from 4.5 Vrms to 12 Vrms.
- Large Delta: Models SGD-6 support maximum voltages ranging from 8.5 Vrms to 20 Vrms.
Dimensions are provided in millimeters and inches for active gage length, active gage width, matrix length, and matrix width. For example, the miniature pattern (SGD-1) lists dimensions such as 1.6 mm (0.063 inch) by 10.5 mm (0.413 inch), while the large pattern (SGD-6) extends to 21.4 mm (0.84 inch).
Configuration Options
The SGD series offers configurable options across gage patterns, resistance values, terminations, and temperature compensation materials.
- Gage Patterns: Miniature delta (SGD-1), Medium delta (SGD-3), and Large delta (SGD-6).
- Nominal Resistance: 120 Ω or 350 Ω.
- Termination Types: Ribbon Leads or Solder Pads.
- Temperature Compensation: Steel (ST) or Aluminum (AL).
The model number guide follows the format SGD-<GAGE PATTERN>-<NOMINAL RESISTANCE>-<TERMINATION>-<TEMP COMP>. Custom-designed strain gages are available with no minimum quantities upon consultation with engineering.
Key Product Differences
Variants within the series differ primarily by physical size (miniature, medium, large), electrical resistance, and termination method. The maximum permitted bridge energizing voltage increases with larger gage patterns and higher nominal resistances when configured for Aluminum temperature compensation.
- SGD-1 Series: Miniature delta rosettes; dimensions include 6.8 mm (0.268 inch) matrix length.
- SGD-3 Series: Medium delta rosettes; dimensions include 8.3 mm (0.327 inch) matrix length.
- SGD-6 Series: Large delta rosettes; dimensions include 13.4 mm (0.528 inch) matrix length.
Solder pad variants are designated with model suffixes ending in '8' (e.g., RY681, RY683), while ribbon lead variants end in '2' (e.g., RY621, RY623). Term pads BPT-1, BPT-2, and BPT-3 correspond to the miniature, medium, and large patterns respectively.
