Supported Applications

The Omega OMPBD7 series comprises heavy-duty, oil-tight pilot devices designed for demanding industrial environments. This line includes illuminated pushbuttons and emergency stop (E-Stop) switches featuring mushroom head operators, as well as selector and toggle configurations. The modular design supports tool-less installation in control panels requiring reliable signaling and machine control.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series is engineered for robust mechanical performance with a contact durability of 10,000,000 cycles per EN 60947-5-1 (Annex C). Operators withstand vibration testing at 10 to 2000 Hz with 1.52 mm displacement and shock loads up to 100 G for a 1/2 cycle sine wave duration of 11 ms.

Environmental ratings include an operating temperature range of -25 to 70°C (-13 to 158°F) and short-term storage from -40 to 85°C (-40 to 185°F). Humidity tolerance is rated at 50 to 95% RH from 25 to 60°C (77 to 140°F) per MIL-STD-810C, Method 507.1.

Electrical performance supports a thermal current of 10 A max enclosed at 40°C ambient temperature. Standard contact blocks are rated for 600 Vac (AC15, DC13) and low voltage contacts support down to 5V, 1mA DC min. Insulation voltage is Ui = 690 V for screw terminals and Ui = 300 V for springless terminals.

Configuration Options

The OMPBD7 series offers extensive configuration options across operator materials, button styles, contact arrangements, and illumination types to meet specific panel requirements.

  • Operator Materials: Available in plastic (OMPD7P) using high-grade thermoplastics or metal (OMPD7M) with die-cast zinc housing and corrosion-resistant chrome plating. Plastic operators are rated NEMA 4/13; metal operators add Type 4X protection.
  • Button Styles: Includes flush, extended, mushroom head (40 mm), push-pull (30 mm, 40 mm, 60 mm), and twist-to-release E-Stop configurations. Colors include green, red, yellow, blue, and clear/white.
  • Contact Configurations: Supports up to six contact blocks per operator with options for NO, NC, NCLB (late break positive opening), NOEM (early make double break/double make), and GCB (Guardian Contact Block) for E-Stops. Operation modes include momentary and maintained.
  • Illumination: Optional light modules are available with incandescent bulbs or integral LEDs. Voltage options range from 6 Vac/dc to 240 Vac, including specific neon ratings at 240 Vac.
  • Electrical Connections: Back-of-panel components feature screw terminals (IP20 recessed) accepting #18 to 12 AWG wire or spring-clamp terminals for #18 to 14 AWG. Recommended tightening torque is 0.7 to 0.9 N·m.
  • Accessories: The series supports legends (e.g., "Start," "Stop," "Auto"), spare bulbs, mounting ring wrenches, and hole plugs for unused openings.

Key Product Differences

Variants within the OMPBD7-mush1 bundle distinguish between plastic (OMPD7P) and metal (OMPD7M) operator families. Metal operators require a higher mounting torque of 4.4 N·m compared to 1.7 N·m for plastic versions.

Specific model differences include:

  • Mushroom Operators: Momentary mushroom heads (e.g., LMM4) are available in both materials, while maintained push-pull styles (LMP3, LMP4, LMP6) offer larger actuation surfaces.
  • E-Stop Configurations: Twist-to-release E-Stops (LMT44, LMT64) provide a distinct mechanical release mechanism compared to standard mushroom heads. Models with the "S" suffix indicate inclusion of a Guardian Contact Block (GCB).
  • Contact Blocks: Standard blocks handle up to 10 A thermal current; low voltage contact blocks are recommended for applications below 17 V, 5 mA.
