Supported Applications
The Omega FE Series is a medium temperature constant wattage heating cable designed for freeze protection and midrange process temperature control and maintenance applications. The series supports lines periodically purged with steam at pressures up to 150 psig.
Operating Conditions & Performance
This low-watt density electrical resistance heater features a continuous exposure rating of up to 204°C (400°F). For de-energized conditions, the maximum short-term exposure temperature is rated at 232°C (450°F). The cable construction includes moisture and chemical resistance with an extruded jacket made from Fluorocarbon film, specifically 20 Mil FEP. Electrical performance specifications include a dielectric strength in excess of 2500V.
Configuration Options
The FE Series is offered as a parallel resistance heater that can be cut to length at the job site while maintaining constant watt density. The cable features an overall nominal dimension of 7.62 x 5.08 mm (0.30 x 0.20") and includes a metal overbraid.
Available configurations include:
- Wattage densities: 3, 5, 8, and 12 Watts/ft
- Voltage ratings: Options available for 120 Vac through 480 Vac (including intermediate voltages such as 208 V and 277 V)
- Circuit lengths: Maximum circuit lengths vary by wattage and voltage, ranging from 180 ft to 880 ft based on a 10% end-to-end voltage variation allowance
- Hazardous location approvals: Factory Mutual Class I, Division II, Groups B, C, D; Class II, Division II, Groups E, F, G; and Class III
The series supports termination kits for FE cable. Control options include a complete selection of controllers and thermostats available online.
Key Product Differences
Variants within the FE Series are distinguished by wattage density, voltage rating, module length requirements, and maximum circuit lengths. The model number guide follows the format FE< Watts/ft >-< Volts >B. For example, an 8 W/ft cable rated for 120 Vac is designated FE8-120B.
Cable circuit module lengths vary by configuration: 3 and 5 Watt/ft models typically require a minimum of 2 ft or 4 ft modules depending on voltage. Higher wattage densities such as 8 W/ft may utilize 6 ft modules for higher voltages like 480 Vac. Ordering requires specifying the desired length in feet, with a minimum order quantity of 7.6 inches (25') per note.
