Supported Applications

The Omega SV230 Series comprises 2-way, normally closed (NC), direct lift solenoid valves designed for low-pressure steam applications. These valves are engineered to operate when the pressure drop across the valve falls into the 0 to 5 psi range. The series is intended for controlling liquid or gases and specifically targets steam service up to 45 psi at temperatures reaching 145°C (293°F). All seals utilize ethylene propylene rubber (EPDM) to ensure compatibility with steam over a wide temperature range.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The SV230 Series operates within an ambient temperature range of -9 to 50°C (15 to 122°F). The valves are rated for control of steam up to 45 psi, with a maximum static pressure defined as 5 times the maximum differential pressure. Power requirements are specified at 22 W, 120 Vac, 50 to 60 Hz, Class H.

Response time varies by model size:

  • SV231 (1/4" NPT): Open: 4 to 8 ms; Close: 4 to 8 ms.
  • SV232, SV233, SV234: Open: 30 to 100 ms; Close: 350 to 900 ms.

The series features a rugged NEMA 4 (IP65) housing. Wetted parts consist of brass, stainless steel, copper, and seal materials.

Configuration Options

The SV230 Series is available in four distinct models corresponding to different port sizes and flow coefficients:

  • SV231: 1/4" NPT fitting, 13/64" orifice, Cv of 0.76.
  • SV232: 3/8" NPT fitting, 5/8" orifice, Cv of 4.4.
  • SV233: 1/2" NPT fitting, 5/8" orifice, Cv of 4.4.
  • SV234: 3/4" NPT fitting, 5/8" orifice, Cv of 5.5.

All models utilize EPDM seals and are designed for pipe mounting in any direction. The direct-lift design combines features of a direct-acting valve with those of a pilot-operated valve; due to a flexible link between the solenoid plunger and diaphragm, the valve functions as a direct-acting unit at low pressures and transitions to pilot operation at higher pressures.

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction among SV231 through SV234 is the NPT fitting size (ranging from 1/4" to 3/4") and the resulting flow capacity. While all models share the same direct lift mechanism, brass body construction, EPDM sealing material, and electrical specifications (22 W, 120 Vac), their physical dimensions differ according to port size.

Dimensional data for height (H), projection (P), coil width/depth (C/L/W) varies by model. For example, the SV231 has a height of 66.8 mm (2.63 in), whereas models SV232 and SV233 measure 93.0 mm (3.66 in) in height, and SV234 measures 95.3 mm (3.75 in). All models maintain a consistent projection of 78.0 mm (3.07 in).
