Supported Applications

The Omega F-Series consists of OMEGAFILM® flat profile thin film platinum resistance temperature detectors (RTDs) sold in packs of 100. These elements are designed for high accuracy and stability, conforming to DIN EN 60751 (According to IEC 751). The series features a ceramic substrate with a platinum thin-film layer and glass coating, intended for integration into temperature sensing systems requiring precise resistance-based measurement.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The F-Series elements operate within a process temperature range of -70 to 500°C (-94 to 932°F). Accuracy is defined by tolerance classes: Class B (±(0.3 + 0.005t) °C), Class A (±(0.15 + 0.0025t) °C), and Class 1/3B (±(0.1 + 0.0017t) °C). The Temperature Coefficient of Resistance (TCR) is specified as 0.003851 ± tolerance depending on class.

Performance characteristics include long-term stability with a maximum Ro-Drift of 0.04% after 1000 hours at 500°C. The elements are resistant to vibration (≥40 g, 10–2000 Hz) and shock (100 g Acceleration with 8 ms Half Sine Wave). Insulation resistance exceeds 10 MΩ at 20°C and 1 MΩ at 500°C. Self-heating is rated at 0.4 K/mW at 0°C.

Response times vary by medium and velocity: t0.5 = 0.2 s; t0.9 = 0.4 s in water (v=0.4 m/s); t0.5 = 1 ms; t0.9 = 4.0 s in air (v=1 m/s); and t0.9 = 12.0 s in air (v=0.9 m/s).

Configuration Options

The series supports multiple configurations across nominal resistance, physical dimensions, and tolerance classes.

  • Nominal Resistance: 100 Ω, 500 Ω, and 1000 Ω options are available.
  • Tolerance Classes: Class A, Class B, and Class 1/3B tolerances correspond to specific temperature ranges (e.g., Class 1/3B is listed for 0 to 100°C; Class A for -30 to 350°C).
  • Dimensions: Available sizes include 2.2 x 2.2 x 0.8 mm, 2.0 x 10 x 0.8 mm, 2.0 x 4.0 x 0.8 mm, and 1.5 x 4.0 x 0.8 mm.
  • Electrical Connection: Platinum Clad Nickel Wire Leads, 10 L x 0.2 mm D (0.39 x 0.008").
  • Wetted Materials: Platinum thin-film layer, Glass layer coating, Ceramic substrate.

To minimize self-heating error based on measuring conditions, the series recommends limiting current to a maximum of 1 mA for 100 Ω elements, 0.7 mA for 500 Ω elements, and 0.3 mA for 1000 Ω elements.

Key Product Differences

The F-Series model number guide follows the format: F<series><nominal_resistance><tolerance>-<size>-<temperature_class>. For example, part number F2222-100-B-100 denotes a 2.2 x 2.2 mm element with 100 Ω nominal resistance and Class B tolerance.

Specific model families differ by physical footprint:

  • F2222 Series: Dimensions of 2.2 x 2.2 x 0.8 mm, available in 100 Ω and 1000 Ω resistances.
  • F2010 Series: Elongated dimensions of 2.0 x 10 x 0.8 mm, offered in 100 Ω, 500 Ω, and 1000 Ω configurations.
  • F2040 Series: Dimensions of 2.0 x 4.0 x 0.8 mm, available across 100 Ω, 500 Ω, and 1000 Ω resistances with Class A, B, or 1/3B tolerances.
  • F1540 Series: Compact dimensions of 1.5 x 4.0 x 0.8 mm, offered in 100 Ω resistance with various tolerance classes.
