Supported Applications

The Omega PSW-500 series comprises miniature mechanical pressure and vacuum switches designed for industrial applications requiring compact, adjustable setpoint control. The series includes the standard Miniature Pressure and Vacuum Switches (PSW-500 Series) covering ranges from vacuum to 800 psi, and the Miniature High-Pressure Switches (PSW-560/570 Series) for pressures ranging from 500 to 6000 psi. These switches are intended for use in applications where product failure poses minimal risk of damage to equipment or personnel.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The PSW-500 series operates within an ambient and process temperature range of -55 to 105°C (-65 to 221°F). The standard pressure connection is a ¼-27 NPT. Wetted materials vary by model: the PSW-520 and 540 Series utilize 17-7 PH SS, 303 SS, and loctite #271; the PSW-530 and 550 Series use 303 SS, 316 SS, Buna-N O-ring, and loctite #271; while the high-pressure PSW-560 and 570 Series employ 17-7 PH SS, 303 SS, Buna-N O-ring, and loctite #271.

Performance specifications are defined by specific model ranges. For the PSW-500 Series (models 52x/54x), deadband values range from 0.8 to 100 psi for pressure models and corresponding inHg values for vacuum models, with repeatability ranging from ±0.6 to ±40 psi or ±1.2 to ±8.0 inHg depending on the specific model row. The PSW-560/570 Series exhibits deadbands of 70/120 to 375/1280 psi and repeatability from ±25 to ±300 psi based on nominal setpoint.

Proof pressure ratings are specified as 150% max system pressure for the PSW-530 and PSW-550 Series, while other models list proof pressures up to 9000 psig depending on the range. Exceeding maximum system pressure values may cause a shift in the setpoint.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable electrical outputs and housing dimensions tailored to specific switching requirements:

  • Switch Ratings: Models are available with 1 A SPDT (Gold contacts) or 5 A SPDT (Silver contacts). The 1 A models support up to 115/28 Volts Resistive, while the 5 A models support up to 250/28 Volts Resistive.
  • Adjustable Ranges: Pressure ranges are selectable from decreasing and increasing setpoints. For example, PSW-523 covers 3.0 to 96.5 psig (decreasing) or 4.5 to 100 psig (increasing). High-pressure models such as the PSW-573 cover nominal setpoints from 1000 to 6000 psi.
  • Electrical Connections: Standard wiring includes 20 AWG, 3 polyvinyl-insulated, unjacketed, 300 mm (12") pigtail leads. Color coding for pressure operation is Black = Common, Red = N.C., White = N.O.; this code reverses for vacuum use.
  • Dimensions: The PSW-520 and 540 Series measure 65 mm (2.56") L x 28.6 mm Dia. (1.13"). The high-pressure PSW-560 and 570 Series are larger, measuring 71 mm (2.8") L x 27.8 mm Dia. (1.09").
  • Approvals: UL certification is listed for 1 A switches in the PSW-520 and PSW-540 Series only.

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between standard pressure/vacuum models (PSW-52x, 53x, 54x, 55x) and high-pressure variants (PSW-56x, 57x). The PSW-500 Series covers vacuum to 800 psi with maximum system pressures up to 5000 psi for the 5 A models. In contrast, the PSW-560/570 Series is dedicated to high-pressure applications from 500 to 6000 psi.

Within each family, model numbers indicate specific performance envelopes:

  • PSW-52x and PSW-54x (1 A): Designed for lower pressure ranges up to 800 psig or vacuum applications with gold contacts.
  • PSW-53x and PSW-55x (5 A): Offer higher current switching capacity (Silver contacts) within the standard series envelope, supporting maximum system pressures of 3000 to 5000 psi depending on the model.
  • PSW-56x and PSW-57x: High-pressure variants with nominal setpoints starting at 500 psi. The PSW-561/571, 562/572, and 563/573 sub-series provide increasing maximum system pressures of 3000 to 6000 psig.

Hello howdo i adjust the range of a PSW-535 to open at 450psi and close at 250 psi. thank you

Asked by: 172M
There is no way to adjust the reset point (deadband) on a PSW-500 Series Pressure Switich. The deadband varies with the main setpoint setting. If your main setpoint up around 500 psi the switch will reset around 68 psi below the main setpoint at about 432 PSI.
