Supported Applications

The Omega MPJ Series consists of miniature female panel jack connectors designed for compact mounting in temperature measurement systems. These connectors accept OMEGA and industry-standard miniature male thermocouple plugs, providing a secure interface for Type K, T, J, E, R/S, G, C, D, N, and Uncompensated (Type U) applications.

Key application features include:

  • Compact Installation: Designed with spring clips for space-constrained panel assemblies.
  • Post-Assembly Wiring: Angled terminal screws allow wiring to be completed after the connector is mounted in the panel.
  • Type U Compatibility: Type U (Uncompensated) connectors are specifically used with Type B thermocouples (Platinum/6% Rhodium–Platinum/30% Rhodium).

Operating Conditions & Performance

The MPJ Series is constructed from glass-filled nylon, providing durability across a specified ambient temperature range of -29 to 180°C (-20 to 356°F). The connectors are engineered with color-coded shells corresponding to ANSI designations for rapid visual identification.

  • Temperature Range: -29 to 180°C (-20 to 356°F).
  • Housing Material: Glass-Filled Nylon.
  • Note on High Temperatures: Minor discoloration of the connector may occur between 150°C (302°F) and 180°C (356°F); electrical properties are not affected by this change.

Electrical & Mechanical Specifications

  • Cutout Required: 8.1 x 16.7 mm (0.32 x 0.66").
  • Wire Acceptance: Stranded or solid wire up to 0.8 mm (0.03") Dia. (20 AWG).
  • Connector Type: Miniature Female Panel Jack.

Configuration Options

The series offers a comprehensive selection of alloy codes to match specific thermocouple types, each with distinct compensating alloys and shell colors. The model number follows the format MPJ-[Alloy Code]-F.

Thermocouple Types & Shell Colors

  • Type K (CHROMEGA®–ALOMEGA®): Yellow shell; Model MPJ-K-F. Compensating alloys: CHROMEGA®, ALOMEGA®.
  • Type T (Copper-Constantan): Blue shell; Model MPJ-T-F. Compensating alloys: Copper, Constantan.
  • Type J (Iron-Constantan): Black shell; Model MPJ-J-F. Compensating alloys: Iron, Constantan.
  • Type E (CHROMEGA®–Constantan): Purple shell; Model MPJ-E-F. Compensating alloys: CHROMEGA®, Constantan.
  • Type R/S (Pt-Pt/13%Rh): Green shell; Model MPJ-R/S-F. Compensating alloys: Copper, RNX/SHX.
  • Type G (W-W/26%Re): Red shell; Model MPJ-G-F. Compensating alloys: GPX, GNX.
  • Type C (W/5%Re–W/26%Re): Red shell; Model MPJ-C-F. Compensating alloys: CPX, CNX.
  • Type D (W/3%Re–W/25%Re): Red shell; Model MPJ-D-F. Compensating alloys: DPX, DNX.
  • Type U (Uncompensated): White shell; Model MPJ-U-F. Compensating alloys: Copper, Copper.
  • Type N (OMEGALLOY®): Orange shell; Model MPJ-N-F. Compensating alloys: OMEGA-P®, OMEGA-N®.

Accessories & Options

  • Extra Mounting Clips: Available as single units (Model MH-MPJ-1) or 5-packs (Model MH-MPJ-5).
  • ID Number Labels: Optional labels available in ranges: Model 1-6S, 1-12S, 1-18S, 1-24S, 1-50S, and 1-100S.

Key Product Differences

Variants within the MPJ Series are distinguished primarily by their alloy code designation, which dictates the compensating alloys used in the connector terminals (+/-) and the corresponding ANSI shell color. While most types have unique colors (Yellow for K, Blue for T, Black for J), Types G, C, and D share a Red shell but utilize different internal compensating alloys specific to their respective tungsten-rhenium thermocouple chemistries.

Connectors are supplied with mounting hardware (spring clip). The series includes standard female connectors; variations such as KI or NI suffixes in the SKU list indicate specific inventory configurations for Type K and Type N, respectively, though the primary datasheet defines the core MPJ-[Alloy]-F structure.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Jack works great! Jack works great. I would recommend reducing the size of the cut-out in order to better stabilize the jack when installed. Otherwise it's loose and sloppy.

Do you sell replacement metal clips for the back side of these connectors? We are recycling dozens of these connectors from deconstructed control devices where the clips were inadvertently not saved.

Asked by: Greg25
Thank you for your inquiry. We offer the replacement clips, sold in a pack of 100, see Item# MH-MPJ-100

Hello OMEGA, Do you sell a board on which the MPJ-T-F sit (as it shown on the data sheet)?

Asked by: Vera
Thank you for your inquiry. The part number for the aluminum panel is MJP1-06-BLANK https://www.omega.com/en-us/temperature-measurement/temperature-connectors-panels-and-block-assemblies/panel-connectors-and-assemblies/mjp/p/MJP1-06-BLANK

Do you offer similar male and female products suitable for use in high vacuum chambers. Glass filled nylon is known to outgas, ruining the vacuum and possibly the chamber environment.

Asked by: Grub
We do not have any panel jacks made from ceramic that would be good in vacuum. We only have connectors like the SHX series in male and female versions that would be good for vacuum environments.

Hi We are using the Miniature Panel Jacket omega PN MPJ-K-F, do you have some assembly instructions for it?, which is the recommended torque for the screws?

Asked by: Octaviano
Thank you for the question regarding the MPJ- series jack panels. Unfortunately, we do not have a formal installation procedure for these and or recommended torque figures for the screws. A basic installation recommendation for the panel screws can be found on the MJP data sheet here: https://assets.omega.com/pdf/connectors/jack-panel-assemblies/panel-jack-assemblies/MJP.pdf . This is the recommended set up for installation of the panel itself. The jacks themselves are a clip-in connector and are clipped in by pushing them into the same side as the mounting screws. If using a snap-strip, simple hand-tightening is adequate for the snap-strip into the connectors. Similarly, hand-tightening all the connector screws is adequate and recommended. Our apologies, there are no specific maximum torque ratings for these screws.

what is the difference between MPJ-K-F and MPJ-KI-F? I dont see any difference on the product specs.

Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for your inquiry. MPJ-KI-F conforms to European IEC color code (green) and MPJ-K-F follows ANSI color code (yellow).

DOES THE PANEL JACK COME WITH THE FEMALE CONNECTORS OR ARE THEY SOLD SEPARATELY?

Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for the inquiry. MPJ-K-F is the female connector. If you want to order panel and female connectors as a set please refer to following link; https://www.omega.com/en-us/sensors-and-sensing-equipment/sensing-accessories/jack-panel-assemblies/p/MJP Best regards OMEGA
