Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series MFS and MFS2 Magnetic Inductive Flow Sensors are compact, in-line flowmeters designed for measuring compatible, non-coating, conductive liquids. The series utilizes magnetic induction technology to monitor fluid movement with a minimum medium conductivity of 50 μS/cm.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Series MFS and MFS2 operate across distinct temperature envelopes depending on the model family. The MFS models support an ambient operating range of 41 to 158°F (5 to 70°C) and a process temperature range of 32 to 194°F (0 to 90°C). The MFS2 models operate in an ambient range of 41 to 140°F (5 to 60°C) with a process temperature range of 14 to 140°F (-10 to 60°C).

Pressure ratings vary by series and temperature. The MFS series is rated for 232 psi (16 bar). The MFS2 series pressure rating is derated based on temperature: 145 psi (10 bar) @ 68°F (20°C); 116 psi (8 bar) @ 104°F (40°C); and 87 psi (6 bar) @ 140°F (60°C). The series offers a repeatability of 1% with accuracy values listed as ±2% of reading or ±1% or reading. Response time is documented as < 500 ms or < 100 ms depending on configuration.

Power requirements are specified at 24 VDC ±10%, with a maximum current consumption of 80 mA and power consumption of 0.6 W. The load resistance is limited to 250 Ω, matching the loop resistance specification.

Configuration Options

The series provides configurable flow ranges from 0.25 to 52.8 GPM (1 to 200 LPM) and up to 66.0 GPM (250 LPM) in specific MFS2 models, with process connections ranging from 1/4" male NPT to 1-1/4" male NPT.

• Output Signals: Frequency output is standard across the series. Square-wave outputs are available as NPN or PNP. Analog 4-20 mA output is offered on specific models (e.g., MFS-12).
• Housing and Wetted Materials: The housing material is 316 SS with an enclosure rating of NEMA 4 (IP65). Electrodes are constructed from 316 SS. Process connections for the MFS series use 316 SS, while MFS2 process connections utilize PVDF.
• Measuring Pipe and Gaskets: The measuring pipe material is PEEK-GF30 for MFS models; MFS2 models feature an EPDM gasket.
• Electrical Connection: All units use a 4-pin plug connector (M12x1). Flow indication is provided via a green LED that blinks proportionally to flow.

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between the MFS and MFS2 model families through specific dimensional, material, and performance characteristics:

• MFS Models (MFS-11, MFS-21, MFS-31): These models feature 316 SS process connections. The measuring pipe is PEEK-GF30. Weights range from 1.5 lb (0.68 kg) for the -1X series to 1.9 lb (0.87 kg) for the -3X series.
• MFS2 Models (MFS2-1 through MFS2-6): These models utilize PVDF process connections and an EPDM gasket in the measuring pipe assembly. Weights range from 8 oz (226.8 g) for models -1 through -5 to 1 lb (0.45 kg) for model -6.
• Cable Options: Accessories include MFS-C3, MFS-C5, and MFS-C10 cables with lengths of 9.8 ft (3 m), 16.4 ft (5 m), and 32.8 ft (10 m) respectively.
