Supported Applications

The Omega Series 88000 Round Face Thermocouple Handle Probes are designed for measuring surface temperatures of various materials. Documented applications include pipes, plates, walls, molds, dies, and stationary surfaces.

Operating Conditions & Performance

All probes in this series meet the Standard Limits of Error. Measurement capabilities vary by model:

  • Temperature Range (Lower): 250°C (480°F)
  • Temperature Range (Higher): 480°C (900°F)

A note in the documentation states that probes are not designed for long-term exposure to high temperature, specifically citing models 88011, 88002, and 88001. The probe diameter is listed as 12.5 mm (1/2 in) for specific configurations.

Calibration Types

The series supports the following thermocouple calibrations:
  • K: CHROMEGA™-ALOMEGA™
  • E: CHROMEGA™-Constantan

Configuration Options

The Series 88000 is available in various configurations, including straight, right-angle, pencil-type, and swivel designs. These variants feature different sensing element orientations and protective guards.
  • Housing Material: Black plastic (as shown in images)
  • Electrical Connection: Molded SMP or SMPW subminiature male connector
  • Replacement Elements: Available separately for most models; ordered using specific replacement part numbers.
  • Accessories: TAS adaptor (sold separately)

Detailed dimensions vary by model and are provided in drawings on pages 3-5 of the source documentation, with units listed as mm (in).

Key Product Differences

The series includes distinct models within Series 88000, Series 88100, and Series 98000. Specific model variations include:
  • Micro-sensor elements: Model 88012 features micro-sensor elements that are not replaceable due to compact size.
  • Replacement availability: Replacement parts are available for models including 88001, 88002, 88003, 88011, 88012 (with noted exception), 88101, 88102, 88103, and 88105.
  • Connector Standards: Variants are offered with ANSI or IEC connector configurations (e.g., -IEC suffix).
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent temperature probe We've had very positive results using the surface probe. It provides stable, repeatable readings and responds well to large temperature changes. We like that the probe is well built, easy to handle and it has been an invaluable tool for the process verification tasks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as expected! I bought this a month ago and it was just what our facility needed. Although, if your using a Fluke meter be ready to buy another banana plug. Because the one supplied will not work. Other that this issue looks to be a great piece of equipment.

What is the response time on the 88002(k)

Asked by: Clay_2
Omega does not offer a specific response time for our temperature sensors as environmental conditions can affect the response time. Please review the following link with all the information we can provide: https://www.omega.co.uk/temperature/Z/ThermocoupleResponseTime.html

Can these probes be used with FLUKE multimeters?

Asked by: xaran
Hello Xaran, The 88000 series thermocouple probes have miniature male connector that comes standard on all configurations. As long as the FLUKE has temperature reading capability via an external thermocouple sensor and the connection port accepts mini male connector then yes, it should be fine. Be sure to check which thermocouple calibrations the meter accepts and match to sensor when purchasing

How do I install the replaceable Element, PN 88016K-RE, now that mine is worn out? I unscrew the round metal covers, and is attached to the middle. I cannot see how to solder it or secure it or un-secure the old worn out Replaceable Element?

Asked by: Ward
The 88010 (along with 88106, 88107, 88108) elements are welded to the wire and cannot be replaced by the customer, thus they don’t have replacement element instructions and need to be returned to replace. Contact customer service at cservice@omega.com to set up return.
