Supported Applications

The Omega M12 Cable series provides compensated thermocouple extension cables designed for connecting M12 field-mountable sensors to instrumentation. These assemblies feature straight and right-angled M12 connectors at the sensor end, paired with stripped leads or optional back-end connectors (OSTW, SMPW) for instrument attachment. The series supports Type J, K, T, and E thermocouples in both ANSI and IEC color code configurations.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The M12CM cables are vibration-tested to MIL-STD-202G, Method 204D, Test Condition A (10g's from 10 to 500 Hz) when installed on an M12 probe. The series offers two cable insulation options with distinct maximum temperature ratings:

  • EXTT Cable Option: Extension grade 24 AWG stranded, PFA insulated conductors and jacket with LCP overmold; rated to a maximum temperature of 250°C (482°F).
  • EXTTP Cable Option: Extension grade 24 AWG stranded, PFA insulated conductors with PVC jacket and polyurethane overmold; rated to a maximum temperature of 105°C (221°F).

The series is RoHS compliant.

Cable Wiring Standards

Conductor color codes follow ANSI or IEC standards depending on the thermocouple type selected. For example, Type K cables use Yellow/Red for ANSI and Green/White for IEC pin assignments at pins 2 and 3 respectively.

Configuration Options

The M12CM series is configurable across sensor connectors, cable types, back-end terminations, and lengths. Selection follows the model number format: M12CM - [Thermocouple Type] - [Cable Option] - [Front End Connector] - [Back End Connector] - [Length in Meters].

Connector Options

Sensor Attachment (Front End):

  • SF: M12 straight socket connector (female)
  • SM: M12 straight plug connector (male)
  • RF: M12 right angled socket connector (female)
  • RM: M12 right angled plug connector (male)

Cable Options

  • EXTT: PFA insulated, 24 AWG stranded, PVC jacket and polyurethane overmold, LCP overmold.
  • EXTTP: Extension grade 24 AWG stranded, PFA insulated on conductors, PVC jacketed and polyurethane overmold.

Back End Connector Options (Instrument Attachment)

All models ship with stripped leads by default. Additional connectors can be added for an additional cost:

  • M12 Connectors: SF, SM, RF, RM.
  • OSTW Connectors: OSTWF (female), OSTWM (male).
  • SMPW-CC Connectors: SMPWF (female), SMPWM (male).

Lengths and Customization

Standard lengths include 1.5, 3, 5, 10, and 20 meters. For longer cables, the last number in the model number can be changed to the desired length in meters for an additional cost per meter.

Key Product Differences

Variants differ primarily by thermocouple type (J, K, T, E), color code standard (ANSI vs. IEC), cable insulation rating (EXTT 250°C or EXTTP 105°C), and connector orientation.

  • Color Codes: To specify IEC colors instead of ANSI, add 'I' after the thermocouple type in the model number (e.g., KI for Type K IEC) at no additional cost.
  • Termination: Standard models feature stripped leads on the instrument end. Models with added back-end connectors include codes such as SMPWM, OSTWF, or M12 variants appended to the base model string.
