Supported Applications

The Omega FP2540-Series comprises high-performance paddlewheel flow sensors designed for low-velocity liquid flow measurement. The series includes the standard insertion sensor (FP-2541) and a hot-tap version (FP-3-1500-2B), enabling installation in pressurized lines without system shutdown. These rugged 316 stainless steel sensors utilize internal circuitry to eliminate magnets from the process fluid, supporting applications requiring low flow measurement while maintaining insertion-type advantages.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The FP2540-Series operates within a velocity range of 0.3 to 20 fps with an output frequency of 15 Hz per fps. Accuracy is specified as ±1% of full range linearity, and repeatability is ±0.5% of full range. The sensors are rated for pressures up to 250 psi (17 bar) at a maximum process temperature of 82°C (180°F). Performance specifications reference operation in water; chemical compatibility must be verified for other media.

Power requirements are 5 to 24 Vdc. The output signal is an open collector, sinking type using twisted pair with foil shield cabling. Cable lengths support up to 7.6 m (25') standard or extendable to a maximum of 305 m (1000').

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable options for installation method, pipe size compatibility, and material composition.

• Sensor Types: Standard insertion sensor (FP-2541) with 1.5 in. NPT thread; Hot-tap flow sensor (FP-3-1500-2B) for removable installation without shutdown.
• Pipe Size Range: FP-2541 supports pipe sizes from 1.5 to 24 inches; the hot-tap variant (FP-3-1500-2B) extends support up to 36 inches.
• Process Connections: Available with 1.5 in. NPT or ISO 7/1-R 1.5 thread connections.
• Wetted Materials: Sensor fitting constructed of 316SS; rotor made from CD4MCu; bearings utilize PEEK™ material; standard O-rings are FKM (FKM).
• Dimensions: The sensor body features a diameter of 24 mm (0.94 inch) and an overall length of 127 mm (5.0 inches), excluding cable.

Accessories include the FP-3-1500-302 hot-tap installation tool, replacement rotor and pin kits for specific serial numbers, and a 152 mm (6") installation ruler included with standard sensors.

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction within the FP2540-Series lies between the fixed insertion model and the hot-tap configuration. The FP-2541 is designed for permanent installation into a 1.5 in. NPT fitting, suitable for pipe sizes ranging from 1.5 to 24 inches. Conversely, the FP-3-1500-2B incorporates a hot-tap design allowing insertion and removal while the line remains pressurized, extending compatibility up to 36-inch pipes.
