Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series ZV2 Zone Valves are designed for flow control in hot and cold water HVAC systems. These electrically driven, bidirectional valves operate in conjunction with a thermostat to regulate room temperature. The series serves as direct replacements for competitor units and is available in configurations suitable for standard installation requirements.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The Series ZV2 operates within an ambient temperature range of 32 to 104°F (0 to 40°C) and a process fluid temperature range of 37 to 201°F (3 to 94°C). The valves are rated for a maximum pressure of 300 psi (20.7 bar), with a close-off pressure rating of 43 psi (2.96 bar). Wetted materials include brass, stainless steel, and NBR. The actuator housing is constructed from PVC and polycarbonate.
Performance characteristics vary by input type. Floating models consume 2.5 VA, while modulating models consume 3.5 VA. Modulating units feature a motor time-out function that automatically turns off the motor after completing a full stroke to extend motor life. The opening cycle time is documented as 50 to 65 s.
Configuration Options
The series supports multiple configuration options across size, voltage, and control input types:
- Sizes: Available in 1/2", 3/4", 1", and 1-1/4" line sizes with corresponding Cv values of 3.8 (for 1/2" and 3/4") and higher flow capacities for larger diameters.
- Power Supply: Standard models operate on 120 VAC or 24 VAC, ±10%, 50/60 Hz. A 220 VAC power supply is available upon consultation with the factory.
- Input Types: Floating (3-wire) and Modulating inputs are offered. Modulating models accept either a 4 to 20 mA or 0 to 10 VDC signal, requiring 24 VAC power only.
- Process Connections: Standard female NPT connections are provided; optional BSP or sweat connections are available.
- Mechanical Features: Units include an externally accessible manual override lever and a detachable actuator that can be removed via a turn key for installation without the motor assembly.
Optional auxiliary switches may also be configured. The electrical connection consists of 18 AWG jacketed wire, 9" (228 mm) long.
Key Product Differences
The Series ZV2 distinguishes between Floating and Modulating input architectures. Floating units are controlled directly from a thermostat using a 3-wire connection. Modulating units accept analog signals (0 to 10 VDC or 4 to 20 mA) for proportional control, but these models require the 24 VAC power supply option.
Model numbering follows the pattern ZV2. For example, model ZV20212 denotes a 1/2" valve with 120 VAC and Floating input. The series offers specific Cv ratings tied to size: 3.8 for 1/2" and 3/4", 8.0 for 1", and 11.7 for 1-1/4".
Installation constraints include mounting on horizontal pipes at an angle less than 85° and preventing dripping when mounted on vertical pipes. The Series ZV2 is not field serviceable; units requiring repair must be returned to the manufacturer with a return good authorization number.
