Supported Applications
The Omega XW-EDA and XW-EDA-PRO series are long-range wireless transmitters designed to interface analog process signals and precision temperature sensors, including thermocouples (TC) and Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTD). The devices provide a wireless link for monitoring industrial processes in demanding indoor environments or harsh outdoor conditions. Data is transmitted via IEEE 802.15.4 compliant communication at 2.4 GHz to a ZW-REC Wireless Receiver, which connects to an Ethernet network to serve active web pages and display data.
The XW-EDA model supports thermocouples, RTDs, and precision process inputs (current and voltage). The XW-EDA-PRO variant functions as both a wireless end device and an Edge Controller, adding discrete I/O capabilities for triggering alarms, monitoring switches, or controlling other equipment via 2 discrete open drain digital inputs/outputs.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series operates within specific environmental limits depending on the power source. The base unit operating range is -20 to 70°C (-4 to 158°F) at 90% RH non-condensing. When powered by a CR2032 battery, the limit is -20 to 60°C (-4 to 140°F); with alkaline batteries, it is -18 to 55°C (-0.4 to 131°F). The enclosure is constructed of polycarbonate and rated NEMA 4 (IP65).
Wireless communication utilizes a star topology on the 2.4 GHz band (2400 to 2483.5 MHz) with 16 channels, offering a transmit power of 9.5 dBm and receiver sensitivity of -96 dBm. Range is up to 1000 m* (3280') outdoor and 100 m* (328') indoor without obstruction.
Measurement accuracy varies by sensor type as documented in the specification tables:
- Thermocouples: Types J, K, T, E, N, C offer ±0.4°C; Types R, S, B offer ±0.5°C.
- RTDs (Pt100/Pt1000): 385 and 392 types with 4-wire or 3-wire configurations provide ±0.3°C; 2-wire configurations provide ±0.6°C.
- Process Inputs: Current (0-24 mA) accuracy is ±10 uA; Voltage ranges from 0-10 V to 0-100 mV offer accuracies ranging from ±5.0 mV down to ±0.05 mV.
Data assurance includes logging up to 4096 readings per measurement. Battery life is rated for up to 5 years with a frequency of 1 reading per 10 minutes using two included C-cell alkaline batteries, backed by an included CR2032 lithium battery for RTC back-up only.
Configuration Options
The series supports configuration across sensor types, power options, and connectivity accessories:
- Sensor Inputs: Thermocouple (Types J, K, T, E, N, R, S, B, C), RTD (Pt100/Pt1000 in 2-, 3-, or 4-wire configurations), Current (0-24 mA), and Voltage (0-1 V to 0-10 V).
- Power Supply: Accepts 5 to 36 Vdc or 24 Vac ±10%. An optional Safety Qualified AC Power Adaptor provides nominal output of 5 Vdc @ 0.6 A from a 100 to 240 Vdc, 50/60 Hz input.
- Connectivity: Direct USB configuration is supported. The XW-EDA-PRO includes an M12 4-pin male connector for discrete I/O and probe connections; the standard XW-EDA requires a cable for TC or RTD probe connection.
Key Product Differences
The series consists of two distinct models:
- XW-EDA: Long-range wireless end device configured for use with Dual TC, RTD, and Process inputs. It relies on external cabling to connect probes.
- XW-EDA-PRO: Long-range wireless end device and Edge Controller that integrates the M12 4-pin male connector directly into the unit. This variant enables direct connection of compatible M12 Series Thermocouple Probes, PR-Series RTD Probes, or field-mountable connectors without intermediate cabling for sensor attachment.
Compatible accessories include ZW-REC Wireless Receivers, universal AC adaptors with M8 connectors (UNIV-AC-100/240-5-M8), and a range of probes such as the M12 Series (6" length) or multi-length M12M Series for thermocouples, and PR-21A, PR-22, and PR-23 series RTD probes. Specific cable assemblies are available to bridge connections between sensors and transmitters where required.

DOESN'T WORK ACCURATELY WITH 2 THERMOCOUPLES!!!!
Doesn't work with 2 thermocouples. Purchased 10+ of these units to track process conditions in the plant. Had to convert the mV to mA with signal conditioners to use 2 thermocouples on the same transmitter.

Had the XW-EDA unit a M12, 4 pin, female connector?. In that case the process sensor must to have a wire with a M12, 4 pin, male connector?
Thank you for your question. The XW-EDA is a M12 4-PIN male connector so you can simplu use M12-S-F-FM and attach your wires or simply purchase a connector with cable M12C-PVC-4-S-M-R-F-2

Can this unit be powered by an external power supply? If so, does OMEGA manufactures/supplies the external power supply?
Hello Jorge
Yes it can be powered by 5 to 36 VDC power supply, one of the ones we sell is UNIV-AC-100/240-5-M8.
