Supported Applications
The Omega SS-002 Series is a wireless smart sensor designed for temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, and ambient light monitoring with optional external thermocouple (TC), resistance thermometer detector (RTD), or DIN contact closure inputs. The series supports cloud connectivity via the Omega Link platform and local data logging up to 10,649 data points per sensor.
Documented measurement capabilities include:
- Internal sensors: Temperature, Humidity, Barometric Pressure, Ambient Light
- External inputs: Thermocouple (Types J, K, T, E, N, R, S, B, C), RTD (3-Wire 100/500/1000 Ohm Type 385; 3-Wire 100 Ohm Types 392 and 3916), or Contact Closure
- Wireless transmission to Omega Link Gateways or Cloud platforms for remote monitoring
Operating Conditions & Performance
The SS-002 Series operates within specific ambient temperature ranges depending on the power source. When powered by 2x AA alkaline batteries, the operating range is -15°C to 55°C in non-condensing conditions. With USB power (5V @ 500mA), the range extends to -20°C to 65°C. The unit carries an IP40 enclosure rating.
Performance specifications for internal sensors are:
- Temperature: Range of -20°C to 70°C with ±0.3°C accuracy
- Humidity @ 25°C: 0% to 80% (±2.5%) and 80% to 100% (±3.5%)
- Barometric Pressure @ 25°C: 700mbar to 1100mbar with ±4mbar accuracy; Full Range of 300mbar to 1100mbar with ±6mbar accuracy
- Ambient Light: 0-43691 illuminance (Relative level only)
External sensor performance varies by type. Thermocouple ranges span from -210°C to 2000°C depending on the specific Type, with accuracies ranging from ±1.0°C for Types J and E up to ±5.0°C for high-temperature types R, S, B, and C. RTD sensors support ranges of -200°C to 850°C (Type 385) or -200°C to 660°C (Types 392/3916), with an accuracy of ±1.5°C.
Configuration Options
The series offers two primary configurations distinguished by internal sensor availability and external input flexibility:
- SS-002-0-NA: Configurable for one external Thermocouple, RTD, or DIN (Contact Closure) input.
- SS-002-1-NA: Offers a configurable mix of any three internal sensors from Temperature, Humidity, Barometric Pressure, and Ambient Light, plus one external sensor option (Thermocouple, RTD, or Contact Closure).
Wireless communication operates at 915 MHz with AES-256 encryption. The transmission range is up to 3.2 km when powered by USB without obstruction; battery-powered operation supports a shorter distance (up to 1.2 km). Power options include included 2x AA alkaline batteries or external 5V @ 500mA via Micro USB 2.0.
Configuration and firmware updates are managed through the SYNC configuration software, accessible via the Micro USB port. The device features an LED status indicator for power state, pairing mode, gateway communication, and error conditions (e.g., password errors or factory reset).
Key Product Differences
The SS-002 Series is differentiated by model number suffixes indicating sensor configuration:
- -0 variant: Dedicated to a single external input (TC, RTD, or DIN) without the configurable internal sensor mix.
- -1 variant: Includes three selectable internal sensors alongside one external input option.
All models in this series are 915 MHz devices intended for North American regions (-NA suffix). External probes and Micro USB cables are sold separately. The device requires co-location or operation with an Omega Link Gateway (e.g., GW-001 Series) to function as part of the wireless network.

are the layer n wireless smart sensors able to go outside? do they have an ip rating? or is there a weatherproof enclosure for them? also do you have antenna extension cable for this units? thank you
Thank you for your question. The units are not designed for outdoor use and the Ip rating is IP-40 and unfortunately there is not extension cable

Can the sampling rate be increased? 2 minute intervals limits the usefulness of the gateway.
Thank you for your question. The fastest update rate is every 2 minutes.

Is it compatible with XC-14-K-12 thermocouple ? Does it need other accessory ?
Because the probe has 14 AWG wire it is quite large and you may want to use a pigtail to connect. A OSTW-K-M on the probe and OSTW-K-F and a small length of K type Thermocouple wire will do the trick.
