Supported Applications

The Omega CMX Series consists of compact, versatile, and completely self-contained water heating and cooling systems designed for precise temperature control in circulation applications. While suitable for any process requiring controlled heating and cooling water circulation, the series is particularly useful as mold temperature controllers within the plastics industry.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The CMX Series operates with media compatibility limited to Water and Water/Glycol Solutions up to a maximum process temperature of 121°C (250°F). The system incorporates an ASME 125 psig Relief Valve for pressure management. Standard units feature large-diameter piping connections sized at 1¼ NPT, housed within a Carbon Steel enclosure rated as NEMA 1 (IP23) Electrical Enclosure.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable heating power, voltage, and cooling configurations to match specific process loads. Standard models include:

• Heating Power: Available in 4.5 kW, 9 kW, 12 kW, 18 kW, and 24 kW ratings.
• Voltage & Phase: Configured for 240V or 480V, 3-Phase, 60 Hz power supplies.
• Cooling Type: Offered in Open loop and Closed loop configurations (indicated by the 'C' suffix in model numbers).
• Pump Motor: Standard units include a ¾ hp Cast-Iron Bronze Fitted Centrifugal Pump.

The series supports additional options for specialized requirements, including alternative voltages for 208 and 575V (3-phase, 60 Hz) or 240, 380, and 415V (3-phase, 50 Hz). Alternative pumps rated at 1.5, 3, 5, or 7.5 hp are available with pumping capacities to 80 GPM @ 70 psi TDH.

Further configurable features include:

• Power Controllers: Electronic solid state (SCR) options.
• Safety & Control: Surge reduction valve, electrical enclosure door interlock, and IEC-style “dry contact” power contactor.
• Cooling Expansion: Expanded open- or closed-loop cooling capabilities.
• Communication: Digital communication interface options.
• High Temperature Service: Options available for operation to 275°F.

Key Product Differences

The CMX Series distinguishes variants primarily by heating capacity, voltage input, and cooling loop configuration. Model numbers follow the format CMX-----NM, where specific suffixes denote operational differences:

• Cooling Configuration: Models with a 'C' in the voltage segment (e.g., CMX-250-4C/240-NM) indicate Closed loop cooling, while those without (e.g., CMX-250-4/240-NM) utilize Open loop cooling. Closed loop units weigh 215 lb compared to 200 lb for open loop equivalents.
• Dimensions: All standard configurations share identical overall dimensions of H 29 in, W 15 in, D 25 in.
