Supported Applications
The Omega PFT Series Vacuum and Pressure Feedthroughs are pre-assembled hermetic units designed to penetrate pressure barriers, vacuum chambers, or bulkheads with electrical conductors while maintaining a tight seal. These feedthroughs eliminate the need to fasten wires to conventional connectors or solder glass-to-metal seals. The series is engineered for high-pressure and high-vacuum applications where reliable sealing of thermocouples or copper wire pairs is required.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The PFTFS Series features a hermetic face seal design with specific performance limits documented in the specification tables. The operating temperature range for the process is -40 to 120°C (-40 to 250°F). Pressure ratings are defined by orientation: the face seal serves as the high-pressure side, while the thread or jam nut represents the low-pressure side.
Key performance specifications include:
- Maximum Pressure: 2000 psi (138 bar)
- Vacuum Limit: 1 x 10⁻⁸ torr
- Leak Rates, Pressure: 1 x 10⁻⁶ cc air/s at 2000 psi; 1 x 10⁻⁷ cc air/s at 29 inHg vacuum

The series is compatible with oils, solvents, refrigerants, water, and non-corrosive gases. Strong acids and bases should be avoided.
Configuration Options
The PFTFS Series supports 8 wire pairs configured for either copper (Cu) or thermocouple types J, E, T, and K. The electrical connection utilizes 20 AWG solid wire with PTFE insulation, rated from -200 to 200°C, with a length of 48 inches on both sides.
Construction materials for the face seal variant include:
- Housing Material: 300 SS (Stainless Steel)
- O-Ring: Nitrile O-ring
- Wire Insulation: PTFE insulation
The series is available with a hermetic face seal connection featuring a jam nut. The thread specification for the PFTFS model is 1/16-12.
Key Product Differences
Differentiation within the broader Omega feedthrough family includes distinct mechanical configurations and pressure ratings:
- PFTFS Series (Face Seal): Designed for high-pressure applications up to 2000 psi. Features a stainless steel housing, nitrile O-ring seal, and supports 8 wire pairs.
- PFT2NPT & PFT2CPL Series: Utilize NPT plugs or couples with brass housings (or epoxy resin bodies in some configurations) and are rated for a maximum pressure of 120 PSI. These variants support 1, 2, or 4 wire pairs.
- PFTCC Series: Multi-pin connectors featuring stainless steel housing designed for different pin counts and materials (e.g., PFTCC-12U).

What is the temperature rating of the potting used around the wires.

do you sell a crimp or tool to attach the 2 different wire types of the type k thermocouple wire to make a good junction that will be reliable connection going hot and cold and condensation? Or do you provide a service to spot weld the ends together?

Thank you for the inquiry. We do not offer tool for making junction other then our welder. We do not offer welded option. Suggested method of termination and use is to use a terminal block or connector to mate to a pre welded wire or probe style TC.

Can this connector be used above 120C if there's no pressure? what limits the temp rating if wires are good for 200C?
The integrity of the seal is limited to 120C but if your not concerned about leaking in Vacuum or Pressure it should be able to be used above 120C. Omega would not guarantee the product used outside the specified temperature range.

on the PFTFS-8J feedthrough - could you please tell me what the recommended hole size is for the mating part?
Hole size should be 1.062"
