Supported Applications
The OMEGA UW Series wireless non-contact infrared temperature sensor pairs a remote IR sensor head with a radio wireless transmitter to measure surface temperature without touching the target. It is designed for measuring temperatures in confined, hard-to-reach or harsh environments where running signal wire is impractical, covering a range of -18 to 538°C (0 to 1000°F). The transmitter broadcasts process and ambient temperature, signal strength and battery status back to a receiver, and free software turns a PC into a multi-channel chart recorder or data logger.
The electronics are housed in a NEMA 4 (IP65) enclosure and the sensor head is aluminum, letting the unit sit in industrial process environments. It is intended for dry, moisture-free indoor applications and is not designed for medical, nuclear, flammable or explosive service.
Operating Conditions & Performance
Measurement accuracy is ±2% of reading or 2.2°C (4°F), whichever is greater, with a repeatability of ±1% of reading and a response time of 100 ms from 0 to 63% of the final value. The device is powered by a battery pack supplying 3 Vdc from two 1.5 Vdc "AA" lithium cells, with a maximum operating current of 45 mA at 3 Vdc; typical battery life is about 1.5 years at a one-sample-per-minute reading rate at 25°C (77°F).
The wireless transmitter operates over an ambient range of -10 to 70°C (14 to 158°F) and the sensor head over 0 to 70°C (32 to 158°F); with the water cooling jacket the sensor can be applied to processes up to 200°C (392°F). Relative humidity must stay below 95% RH non-condensing, and a warm-up period of about 3 minutes is recommended. The miniature sensor head measures 2.5 cm diameter by 6.3 cm long, and the wireless transmitter body is about 50.8 mm long.
Configuration Options
The series is offered as two base transmitters, the UWIR-2-NEMA and the UWIR-2A-NEMA, both built around the remote infrared sensor head and radio transmitter in the NEMA 4X (IP65) enclosure. Beyond the base unit, capability is extended through a family of OS100 accessories that adapt the sensor to the process.
- OS100-WC water cooling jacket extends process capability up to 200°C (392°F).
- OS100-AP air purge collar keeps the optics clear in dusty or vaporous atmospheres.
- OS100-LS laser sighting accessory aids aiming as a Class 2 laser product.
- OS100-MB mounting bracket and OS100-DR DIN rail adaptor provide fixed mounting.
- OS100-CA15FT and OS100-CA25FT extension cables add 4.6 m (15') or 7.6 m (25') of sensor-head reach.
The base transmitter connects its remote sensor head through a 1.8 m (6') cable, and both models share the same wireless output, accuracy and battery configuration.
Key Product Differences
Ordering follows the pattern UWIR-2-NEMA with optional model-variant and accessory options appended. The core lineup and supporting parts are:
- UWIR-2-NEMA: non-contact wireless infrared transmitter with remote sensor and 1.8 m (6') cable.
- UWIR-2A-NEMA: companion wireless infrared transmitter variant.
- UWTC-BATT-C: replacement 3.6V lithium "C" battery assembly.
The two NEMA-enclosed transmitters form the model lineup, with the OS100 accessory range and the UWTC-BATT-C battery assembly available to configure and maintain each unit.

Can the internal USB port be used for connection to a PC instead of using the wireless connection?
Hello Matt,
The UWIR-2-NEMA usb port is only for configuration and is designed for wireless transmission only to a receiver that is connected to USB port such as UWTC-REC1. You may want to consider a IR-USB which is direct connection to USB port. Here is a link for you to evaluate.
