Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series PUB Portable Ultrasonic Flowmeter Kit measures liquid flow within closed pipes using non-intrusive, clamp-on transducers. The system operates via ultrasonic transit-time difference techniques without inserting mechanical parts into the process stream.

Documented media compatibility includes:

• Clean liquids or oils with less than 3% by volume of particulate content
• Cloudy liquids such as river water and effluent
• Cleaner liquids including demineralized, potable, treated, and seawater
• Homogeneous liquids that do not contain air bubbles capable of ultrasonic wave propagation

The series supports pipe materials including carbon steel, stainless steel (SS), copper, UPVC/PVDF, concrete, galvanized steel, mild steel, glass, and brass.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Series PUB measures linear velocity in the range of 0.33 to 65.62 ft/s (0.1 to 20 m/s). Volumetric flow rates are displayed in units including L/h, L/min, L/sec, gal/min, gal/h, USgals/min, USgals/h, Barrel/h, Barrel/day, m³/s, m³/min, and m³/h.

Accuracy specifications vary by pipe size and flow velocity:

• ±0.5 to 2% of flow reading for flow rate > 0.66 ft/s (0.2 m/s) and pipe ID > 2.95 in (75 mm)
• ±3% of flow reading for flow rate > 0.66 ft/s (0.2 m/s) and pipe ID in range 0.512 to 2.95" (13 to 75 mm)
• ±6% of flow reading for flow rate < 0.66 ft/s (0.2 m/s)

The instrument provides a repeatability of ±0.5 % of measured value or ±0.066 ft/s (0.02 m/s) and features a response time of < 500 ms.

Process temperature limits are -4 to 275°F (-20 to 135°C). The converter enclosure is rated IP54, while the transducers carry an IP51 rating. Housing material for the converter is flame retardant injection molded ABS plastic.

Configuration Options

The series offers two primary model configurations based on pipe diameter ranges:

• PUB-20 (Standard Version): Pipe size range 2 to 40 inches (50.7 to 1016 mm)
• PUF Series (Data Logging Version): Includes PUF-1001 for pipe sizes 0.5 to 78 inches (13 to 2000 mm) and PUF-1002 for pipe sizes 0.5 to 4.5 inches (13 to 115 mm)

Electrical outputs include one opto-isolated analog output selectable as 4-20 mA, 0-16 mA, or 0-20 mA with a maximum load resistance of 620 Ω. An error current signal is available (selectable) ranging from 0 to 26 mA.

Pulse outputs consist of one opto-isolated MOSFET relay rated at 150 mA max, 500 pps max, and 200 Hz max. Electrical connections utilize multi-pin Lemo plugs with a Lemo connector cable from sensors.

Power is supplied by an internal, factory replaceable (1) 5-Cell NiMH battery or via external 9-24 VDC input. The kit includes the converter, set of transducers, transducer holders, cables (6.56' / 2 m), ultrasonic coupling grease, chains, ruled guide rail, test block, and carrying case.

Optional accessories include a NIST traceable calibration certificate (order code: NISTCAL-FU).

Key Product Differences

The Series PUB standard version provides local flow rate display with analog outputs. The Series PUF data logging version offers the same features plus integrated data logging capability.

Model selection is determined by pipe diameter requirements: the PUB-20 covers 2 to 40 inches, while the PUF variants extend coverage down to 0.5 inches and up to 78 inches depending on the specific model (PUF-1001 or PUF-1002).

The unit weighs 2.3 lb (1.06 kg) without accessories; with all accessories in the carrying case, total weight is 13.23 lb (6.0 kg). The converter dimensions are 10-25/64 x 1-31/32 x 6-39/64 inches [264.00 x 50.00 x 168.00 mm].

Approvals include CE marking. A California Proposition 65 warning applies regarding exposure to chemicals including Lead.
