Supported Applications
The Omega EXPP series consists of UL Listed Twisted Shielded Extension Grade Thermocouple Wire, designated as TWSH-UL. This duplex wire is engineered for systems sensitive to induced voltages and electrical noise. The conductors are insulated with color-coded PVC, twisted with a tin/copper drain wire, wrapped in an aluminized polyester tape shield, and finished with a final layer of PVC coating.
The series supports Power Limited Tray Cable (PLTC) applications under UL Subject 13, File E153789. The construction provides resistance to moisture, abrasion, chemicals, and UV light.
Operating Conditions & Performance
This extension grade wire is available in ANSI and IEC color-coded configurations for Types KX (CHROMEGA®/ALOMEGA®), JX (Iron/Constantan), TX (Copper/Constantan), EX (CHROMEGA® Constantan), RS, and RSI. The series utilizes extruded PVC single conductor and duplex insulation.
Electrical noise reduction is achieved through the aluminized polyester shield with an integral tin/copper drain wire. Specific dimensional parameters vary by AWG size:
- Bare Conductor Diameter: Ranges from 0.032 inches (0.81 mm) for 20 gage to 0.060 inches (1.5 mm) for stranded 16S variants.
- Nominal Overall Size: Varies between 0.225 inches (5.7 mm) and 0.290 inches (7.4 mm).
Note: The addition of optional overbraiding invalidates the UL rating.
Drain Wire Specifications by Base Wire Gauge
- 16 gage stranded base wire: Uses 16 gage stranded uninsulated drain wire.
- 16 gage solid base wire: Uses 18 gage solid uninsulated drain wire.
- 20 gage stranded base wire: Uses 22 gage stranded uninsulated drain wire.
- 20 gage solid base wire: Uses 22 gage solid uninsulated drain wire.
- 24 gage solid/stranded base wire: Uses 24 gage solid or stranded uninsulated drain wire respectively (all stranded drain wire is 7 strands).

The series offers extensive configuration options across thermocouple types, conductor gauges, and spool lengths to accommodate diverse installation requirements.
Thermocouple Types & Standards
- ANSI Offerings: Type KX (CHROMEGA®/ALOMEGA®), JX (Iron/Constantan), TX (Copper/Constantan), EX (CHROMEGA® Constantan).
- IEC Offerings: Types KX, JX, TX, and EX with IEC color coding.
Gauge & Construction Options
- American Wire Gauge (AWG): Available in 16 gage solid/stranded, 20 gage solid/stranded, and 24 gage.
- Shielding: Standard aluminized polyester tape with integral tin/copper drain wire.
- Overbraiding (Optional): Stainless Steel or Tinned Copper Wire overbraiding is available; note that this option invalidates the UL rating.
Spool Lengths & Packaging
The series supports standard spool lengths in both imperial and metric units:
- Imperial (ft): 25, 50, 100, 200, 500, and 1000 ft.
- Metric (m): 7.5 m, 30 m, 60 m, 150 m, and 300 m.

Variants within the EXPP series are distinguished by thermocouple type (KX, JX, TX, EX), conductor gauge (solid vs. stranded), color coding standard (ANSI vs. IEC), and spool length.

looking for a solution to read temperature inside a RF Faraday Cage and get the thermocouple inside the Faraday Cage and still maintain the RF attenuation of Faraday Cage Grounding.
Hi, we do not have any Test Data for a thermocouple probe used in a RF Faraday Cage, however we do have a Low noise thermocouple probe that you may want to consider and evaluate for suitability in your application. The connector used on this probe features a Ground Strap connection that provides Protection against electrical noise. Please see the links for additional information:

Does the temperature rating refer to the temperatures that can be measured, or the temperature surrounding the wire? I want to measure up to 150C, only probe will be exposed, will extension wire rated up to 105C but exposed to 30C work?

The temperature range listed for TWSH extension wire is the operational specification. In this case, 105C is max temperature the wire can withstand. You should expect no issues using this in a 30C environment
