Supported Applications

The Series PBLTX Submersible Level Transmitter is designed for measuring liquid level in harsh environments, specifically wastewater and slurry applications. The unit measures the height of liquid above its position referenced to atmospheric pressure using a piezoresistive sensing element encased in a 316 SS housing. A large-diameter diaphragm seal provides non-clogging performance and resistance to damage from floating solids.

Documented service includes compatible liquids where protection against particulate or water droplets entering the transducer is required via a maintenance-free filter on the ventilation tube.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Series PBLTX delivers an accuracy of ±0.25% FS (includes linearity, hysteresis, and repeatability) with a response time of 50 msec. The pressure limit is rated at 2X FS.

• Temperature Limits: ETFE cable equipped: -4 to 176°F (-20 to 80°C); Polyurethane cable equipped: -4 to 149°F (-20 to 65°C).
• Compensated Temperature Range: -4 to 176°F (-20 to 80°C) for ETFE; thermal effect is less than ±0.02%/FS/°F.
• Power Requirement: 10-28 VDC (datasheet notes PBLTX: 10-20 VDC).
• Output Signal: 4-20 mA DC, 2-wire with a maximum loop resistance of 900 Ω.

The unit is UL Listed for use in Hazardous (Classified) Locations via Intrinsic Safety "ia". Approvals include cULus intrinsically safe for Class I, Div. 1, Groups A, B, C, D; Class II, Div. 1, Groups E, F, G; and Class III, Div. 1. Additional certifications cover ATEX (II 1 G Ex ia IIC T4 Ga and II 1 D Ex ia IIIC T135C Da), UKCA Ex, CE, CAN/CSA C22.2 No. 60079-0:15, and IECEx.

Configuration Options

The series supports configurable ranges, cable lengths, materials, and hazardous location options to meet specific installation needs.

• Ranges: Available in psi (up to 5000 psi maximum) or feet (1500 feet maximum). Specific configured ranges include 5 psi (11.54 ft w.c.), 10 psi, 15 psi, and 20 psi.
• Cable Lengths: Configurable from 10 to 2000 ft (3 to 610 m). Standard lengths include 40 ft and 60 ft variants.
• Cable Types: ETFE or Polyurethane (-PU option).
• Hazardous Location Options: ATEX intrinsically safe configuration available via the -ATEX option code. Installation requires adherence to Control Drawing 01833-44 for entity parameters.

The transmitter features a shielded, vented cable with 270-pound tensile strength. The ventilation tube automatically compensates for atmospheric pressure changes above the tank. Wetted materials include Body: 316 SS and 316L SS; Cable: Polyether polyurethane or ETFE; Seals: Fluoroelastomer.

Key Product Differences

The Series PBLTX is distinguished from the non-hazardous Series PBLT2 by its intrinsic safety certification and specific power/temperature envelopes. While both series share a 316 SS cage-style construction, piezoresistive sensing element, and ±0.25% FS accuracy, they differ in electrical protection and operating limits.

• Electrical Protection: The PBLT2 includes lightning and surge protection utilizing dual arrestor technology; the PBLTX does not include this feature but provides intrinsic safety for hazardous locations.
• Power Supply: PBLT2 operates on 13-30 VDC, whereas PBLTX is rated for 10-28 VDC (datasheet specifies 10-20 VDC).
• Temperature Limits: The PBLT2 process temperature limit extends to 200°F (-18 to 93°C), while the PBLTX is limited by cable type: -4 to 176°F for ETFE and -4 to 149°F for Polyurethane.

Accessories available include A-297 (Dessicant filter for vent tube), A-625 (316 SS cable hanger), MTL5041 (Intrinsically safe galvanic isolator), and MTL7706 (Intrinsically safe zener barrier).
