Supported Applications
The Omega TAC80B series functions as a universal thermocouple amplifier and linearizer, converting signals from Type J, K, or T thermocouples into a precision analog output. The device is designed to interface with chart recorders, analog voltmeters, and digital voltmeters, enabling these instruments to function as accurate temperature measuring devices.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series provides linearized outputs of 1 mV per °C or 1 mV per °F. Measurement ranges vary by thermocouple type: Type J covers -4° to 1112°F (-20° to 600°C), Type K spans -4° to 1832°F (-20° to 1000°C), and Type T operates from -4° to 572°F (-20° to 300°C). Accuracy specifications are ±2.6°C (±4.3°F) for Type J, ±3.6°C (±6.1°F) for Type K, and ±1.8°C (±3.0°F) for Type T.
Operating ambient temperature is 0° to 50°C. Storage conditions are specified as 14° to 122°F (-10° to +50°C). The unit features built-in cold junction compensation with a specification of 0.05°C/°C.
Power and Physical Specifications
- Power Supply: Operates on a 9V alkaline battery or an optional AC power adapter (TAC80B-AC).
- Dimensions: H: 2.25" (57mm) x W: 2.4" (71mm) x D: 1" (25mm).
- Weight: 6 oz.
Safety and Compliance Notes
- The unit is RoHS 2 Compliant.
- A caution note states that when the range switch is in the TEST position (center), full battery voltage (9V) is applied to the output. The power switch must be in the OFF position before switching from °F to °C or vice-versa.
Configuration Options
The TAC80B series supports three primary thermocouple input types, identified by model suffixes: J (Iron-Constantan), K (CHROMEGA®-ALOMEGA®), and T (Copper-Constantan). The device accepts inputs via an SMP male connector; a standard-to-miniature connector adaptor is supplied with each unit.
Output connections mate to Male and Female Standard Banana Plugs. Configuration options include:
- Power Options: Internal 9V battery (included) or optional AC adaptors: TAC80B-AC for 115 Vac, and TAC80B-AC-230V for 230 Vac.
- Cabling Accessories: Extension cable with 914 mm (36") leads (banana to banana) available as model TAC-CAB; in-line banana plug available as model TAC80B-BJ.
Key Product Differences
Variants within the series are distinguished by their input thermocouple type and corresponding measurement range:
- TAC80B-J: Accepts Type J inputs; Range: -4° to 1112°F (-20° to 600°C); Accuracy: ±3.0°C (±5.4°F) per the ordering table, or ±2.6°C (±4.3°F) as listed in general specifications.
- TAC80B-K: Accepts Type K inputs; Range: -4° to 1832°F (-20° to 1000°C); Accuracy: ±4.0°C (±7.2°F) per the ordering table, or ±3.6°C (±6.1°F) as listed in general specifications.
- TAC80B-T: Accepts Type T inputs; Range: -4° to 572°F (-20° to 300°C); Accuracy: ±1.6°C (±3.0°F) per the ordering table, or ±1.8°C (±3.0°F) as listed in general specifications.
