Supported Applications
The Omega TX13 is a smart in-head transmitter designed to connect to standard thermocouple sensors and convert temperature measurements into a linear (4 to 20) mA signal. It accepts inputs from Type K, J, E, N, T, R, and S thermocouples as well as mV signals. The device features galvanic isolation and is intended for use in industrial locations where it converts sensor output over a configured range into a standard transmission signal.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The TX13 operates within an ambient temperature range of -40 to 85°C (-40 to 185°F) and supports humidity levels from 10 to 90% RH non-condensing. Storage temperatures are rated for -50 to 90°C (-58 to 194°F). The transmitter achieves a response time of 1 second to reach 90% of the final value, with an update time of 0.5 seconds and a typical start-up time of 5 seconds from power up.
Accuracy specifications vary by sensor type as documented in the series data sheet:
- Type K: -200 to 1370 °C (-328 to 2498 °F) with ±0.5°C (0.9°F) or ±0.1% whichever is greater
- Type J: -100 to 1200 °C (-148 to 2192 °F)
- Type E: -100 to 1000 °C (-148 to 1832 °F)
- Type N: -180 to 1300 °C (-292 to 2372 °F)
- Type T: -100 to 400 °C (-148 to 752 °F)
- Types R and S: -10 to 1760 °C (14 to 3200 °F), with accuracy specified over the range 800 to 1600°C
- mV Input: -10 to 70 mV with ±0.02% of full scale accuracy
The output signal is a two-wire (4 to 20) mA sink, capable of low limits at 3.8 mA and high limits at 21.5 mA for burnout indication.
Configuration Options
The TX13 series supports configuration via a single pushbutton menu system indicated by 'M' and 'R' LEDs, allowing users to reconfigure transmitter parameters including input type and range selection from 56 preprogrammed ranges. The device includes user trim functionality for nulling out sensor error and programmable burnout with a sensor fail indicator.
Key configurable options include:
- Housing: DIN standard probe head enclosure (43 mm diameter x 21 mm height) providing protection from moisture, dust, and corrosive atmospheres. The manual notes the device conforms to EC directive BS EN 61326:1998 when installed in a termination head providing at least IP20 protection.
- Power Supply: Operates on 10 to 30 Vdc (example load resistance calculation provided for 24V supply).
- Connections: Screw terminal electrical connection with center hole sensor wire entry. Sensor input wires must be less than 3 m (10') to comply with EMC standards.
- Options and Accessories: Available options include TX-SCALED for factory setup of range, PSR series regulated power supplies (24 Vdc), and TX2-100 shielded cables.

I like the transmitter that you guys have, as it's very versatile. I am new to the field and I'm teaching myself setup and calibration. I thought that it would have been nice to know that I would have to expect to do that in advance and with more direction. The device certainly needed trimmed to the (-100C / 100C) range of the T type thermocouple. I thought that it would be a lot closer to the 4mA & 20mA output than it was. I had to buy a calibrator and learned how to operate the new machine and was able to trim that device to exactly (-100C / 100C) to 4mA & 20mA, and that was fun, and the device was easy to configure. It was so far off though it surprised me, it seems the true zero and span for the T type was actually set to something other than (-100C / 100C) so it's not plug and play, and maybe they never are. I'm a beginner, and now maybe a novice! What I've learned I will be able to apply to many things in our facility and I certainly like the easy configuration that your product offers, now that I know how it all works. The Best School is the School of Hard Knocks!

To use with Omega SA2C-K, type K TC with -50 to 200C range: -50 to to 200 is not one of the preconfigured ranges for TX13. What is the PN to order if we want the transmitter come with -50 to 200 reconfiguration?

Can you use any type of TC on this TX? ex. J or T if it only states K on the device?
