Supported Applications

The Omega OMEGABOND® epoxy and OMEGATHERM® thermal conducting pastes are formulated for the permanent and temporary bonding of thermocouples, thin film RTDs, thermistors, and other temperature sensors. These products adhere to most surfaces including metals (M), ceramics (C), plastics (PL), paper products (PA), wood (W), glass, and various plastic types with proper surface preparation.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series offers distinct performance envelopes based on the specific formulation. Maximum continuous temperatures range from 105°C (221°F) for OB-101 to 260°C (500°F) for OB-200, with OMEGATHERM® OT-201 rated up to 200°C (392°F). Thermal conductivity varies significantly across the line: OB-100 is classified as Low; OB-101 provides High thermal conductivity at 7.2 BTU(in)/(hr)(ft²)(°F); and OB-102, OB-200, and OT-201 offer Very High to Extremely High ratings of 9.6 to 16 BTU(in)/(hr)(ft²)(°F).

Electrical insulation volume resistivity ranges from High at 10¹² ohm-cm (OB-100) to Very High levels between 10¹⁴ and 10¹⁵ ohm-cm for the other formulations. Mechanical strength varies by model, with Tensile Shear strengths listed as minimums of 2000 PSI (OB-100), 2200 PSI (OB-101), and 2700 PSI (OB-200). OB-102 is characterized for low stress bonding. Flexure Strength values are documented at a minimum of 12,000 PSI for OB-101 and 17,000 PSI for OB-200.

Curing Characteristics

  • OB-100: Fast set epoxy with an 8 to 12 minute set time at room temperature; working life is approximately 8 minutes at room temp.
  • OB-101 & OB-102: Cure at room temperature or via heat acceleration. OB-102 offers a 45-minute working life at 25°C/77°F and can be cured in 4 to 6 hours at 45°C/113°F, or 1 to 2 hours at 65°C/149°F.

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between fast-set epoxies (OB-100), standard room temperature cure epoxies with varying thermal conductivity (OB-101, OB-102), and high-temperature elevated-cure epoxy (OB-200). OMEGATHERM® OT-201 differs as a non-hardening silicone grease. Coefficient of Thermal Expansion values are documented for specific models: 51 x 10⁻⁶ in/in/°F for OB-100, and approximately 20–21 x 10⁻⁶ in/in/°F for OB-101 and OB-200. Adhesion capabilities vary slightly; while most models adhere to Metal, Ceramic, Plastic, Paper Products, and Wood, OB-102 adheres to M, C, and some PL with proper surface prep (cleaning / abrasion).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Formula changed! We use this epoxy weekly and have been buying it for many years. However, the last batch we purchased was a gel formula instead of the liquid we have become accustom to. Do no like it very much as it is difficult to fill a syringe and use it in the field.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Omegabond 101 I have been using OB-101 in the small packs for several years now to bond the printed circuit board to the frame/case, which as also the heat sink, on automotive Engine Control Modules manufactured with surface mount components. It withstands thermal expansion and contraction, and vibration, while also being a good thermal conductor and yet a good electrical insulator. Shelf life is substantially longer that what is marked on the packets.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Product and great service. We have been using this epoxy for many years and have not experienced any issues with the exception of the more recent texture difference with part A. It used to be smooth and now it is more chunky and dry, making it hard to measure. By warming it up beyond room temperature, we are able to soften it making it easier to portion. This extra step takes away 1 star. The service the company provided is excellent with order follow through and general customer service.

Can you recommend a filler / thickener for OB-200? I am looking to bond a stainless cooling tube to a stainless plate and the OB-200 is a bit too thin to get a nice fillet. Would Stainless steel powder be an acceptable filler for OB-200?

Asked by: Marco
Hi, Omega does not sell nor have we tested any thickening agents with the OB-200. If you need a cement with a bit thicker consistency you might want to look at a cement like the OB-600 as a possible substitute.

Is OMEGABOND 101 Two Part Epoxy good for potting electronics? How well does it handle thick layers and or voids between adhered surfaces? How thick/viscus is the epoxy as you work with it?

Asked by: spacer
OMEGABOND®100—a fast (8 to 12 minute setting time), room temperature, two-part epoxy. Recommended for easy temporary and permanent bonding of beaded wire and “cement-on” thermocouples. Adheres to metals, ceramics, epoxy laminates, glass, wood, concrete and many other materials—for temperature measurements up to 129°C (265°F). It is not recommended for those endeavoring to achieve the ultimate in precision and speed of response, since this unfilled system has a relatively low thermal conductivity.Temporary installation of beaded wire thermocouples can be achieved by using a very small amount of OMEGABOND® 100 to tack the bead to the surface and packing OMEGATHERM® 201 around the exposed surface to improve heat transfer. This clear syrup consistency—100% solid adhesive — contains no solvents and has good strength and electrical insulation characteristics. Note: The working time after mixing the 2-part system at room temperature is only 6 to 8 minutes. OMEGABOND 100 is available in “Twin Pak” packs and 1- and 2-pound kits. For larger gaps, up to 1/4", review the OB-400 High Temperature Air Set Cement.
