Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series TDFT Thermal Dispersion Flow Switch is a continuous frequency output flow transmitter designed for low flow applications. With no moving parts, it delivers low pressure drop and reliable operation, making it well suited to chiller, boiler, and liquid transfer systems where water-based fluids must be monitored.
The transmitter fits pipe sizes from 1/2" to 2" (12.7 to 50 mm) and features a 316L SS housing for use in harsh environments. It is compatible with water-based fluids, so it is a natural fit for HVAC hydronic loops and process cooling and heating circuits.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The TDFT measures flow over a range of 1-3 ft/s (0.05-0.7 m/s) with a repeatability of ±10% at 68°F (20°C) and a response time of 1 to 10 s. Its continuous frequency output spans 5 to 74 Hz.
- Process temperature: 14 to 140°F (-10 to 60°C).
- Ambient temperature: -4 to 158°F (-20 to 70°C).
- Storage temperature: -40 to 158°F (-40 to 70°C).
- Pressure limit: 362 psi (25 bar).
- Power requirements: 24 VDC.
- Current consumption: <50 mA.
- Output frequency: 5 to 74 Hz.
- Electrical connection: 1 x M12.
- Process connection: 1/2" NPT.
- Enclosure rating: IP67.
The device is wetted only with 316L SS and weighs 0.274 lb (124.5 g). It carries CE and cULus approvals.
Configuration Options
The Series TDFT is supplied as a single transmitter configuration, the TDFT, so every unit shares the same 316L stainless steel construction, 1-3 ft/s (0.05-0.7 m/s) measurement range, 5 to 74 Hz frequency output, 24 VDC power requirement, and M12 electrical connection. There are no sensor-grade or output-signal options that differentiate one unit from another; capability is fixed by this common specification.
The M12 connector standardizes field wiring, and the IP67 enclosure rating is common to all units, keeping installation and spare-part planning simple.
Key Product Differences
The model lineup comprises the transmitter and its ordering accessory:
- TDFT — thermal dispersion flow transmitter with continuous frequency output.
- A-TDFT-CBL-15 — 15’ (5 m) M12 cable.
