Syphon-Series

Syphon Series

  • Protects pressure transducers in steam applications: A/SYPHON Series pigtail syphons help shield gage and wet-to-wet differential pressure transmitters from excessive boiler steam temperatures.
  • Durable stainless steel construction: Welded 316 stainless steel design supports demanding pressure-monitoring installations with compatible gases and liquids.
  • Flexible mounting options: Available in 90°, 180°, and 270° bend configurations to position the pressure transducer vertically away from the main pipe.
  • Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 options: Multiple pipe schedule choices allow users to select the right syphon for the required pressure and temperature conditions.
  • Standard connection size: 1/4" Male NPT x 1/4" Male NPT threads simplify integration with compatible pressure transducers and piping accessories.
  • High-temperature capability: Temperature and pressure ratings support boiler and steam-line service when properly selected for the application.
  • Certified construction: Built to ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code basis, with MIL-I certification, RoHS2, WEEE, and REACH compliance.
  • Backed by ACI support: Covered by ACI’s two-year limited warranty for added confidence in pressure transmitter protection applications.

Supported Applications

The ACI A/SYPHON Series consists of pigtail syphons designed to protect Gage and Wet-to-Wet Differential Pressure transducers from damage in boiler applications. These devices are specifically intended for use where the operating temperature of steam exceeds the maximum operating temperature rating of the pressure transducer. The series is compatible with a wide range of gases and liquids.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The A/SYPHON Series features welded 316 Series Stainless Steel construction with ¼" Male NPT x ¼" Male NPT pipe threads. Operating temperature and pressure ratings are dependent on the selected Pipe Schedule (Schedule 40 or Schedule 80) and ambient conditions, as defined in the manufacturer's Temperature vs Pressure table.

Pressure/Temperature ratings for this series are established based on calculations in accordance with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, 1996 edition, 1995 Addenda, Section 1, Paragraph PG27. The documentation notes that no allowance has been provided for corrosion.

Temperature vs Pressure Ratings

The following maximum pressure ratings (PSI) apply to the specified temperature ranges:

  • Schedule 40, 316 SS: Ranges from 2580 PSI at lower temperatures down to 84 PSI at 1500°F.
  • Schedule 80, 316 SS: Offers higher pressure capacity than Schedule 40 across the temperature spectrum (e.g., 2580 PSI max).

Note: Specific maximum pressures vary by temperature increment from 20°F to 1500°F (-6.7°C to 814.7°C) as detailed in the specification table.

Agency Approvals & Compliance

  • ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code 1995
  • MIL-I Certified (Military equivalent of ISO 9000)
  • RoHS2 Compliant
  • WEEE
  • Reach

Configuration Options

The series offers three distinct bend configurations to facilitate vertical mounting away from the main pipe: 90°, 180°, and 270°. Models are available in two Pipe Schedule options, denoted by model suffixes:

  • Schedule 40: Standard wall thickness (e.g., A/SYPHON-90).
  • Schedule 80 (-H): Heavier wall thickness for higher pressure ratings at elevated temperatures (e.g., A/SYPHON-90-H).

All variants utilize the same process connection: 1/4" Male NPT x 1/4" Male NPT. The product is covered by ACI's Two (2) Year Limited Warranty.

Product Weights

  • A/SYPHON-90: 0.40 lbs (0.181 kg)
  • A/SYPHON-90-H: 0.50 lbs (0.227 kg)
  • A/SYPHON-180: 0.40 lbs (0.181 kg)
  • A/SYPHON-180-H: 0.60 lbs (0.272 kg)
  • A/SYPHON-270: 0.50 lbs (0.227 kg)
  • A/SYPHON-270-H: 0.70 lbs (0.318 kg)

Key Product Differences

Variants within the A/SYPHON Series are distinguished by bend angle and pipe schedule thickness, which directly influence weight and pressure-temperature performance.

  • Bend Angle: The series provides 90°, 180°, or 270° configurations to accommodate different installation geometries for vertical mounting away from the main pipe.
  • Pipe Schedule (Pressure Rating): Models with the "-H" suffix utilize Schedule 80 piping, providing higher maximum pressure ratings at elevated temperatures compared to standard Schedule 40 models. For example, at 1500°F, a Schedule 80 unit supports up to 186 PSI while a Schedule 40 unit supports up to 84 PSI.
  • Weight: Heavier wall thickness (Schedule 80) and increased bend angles result in higher product weights. The A/SYPHON-270-H is the heaviest variant at 0.70 lbs, while the A/SYPHON-90 and A/SYPHON-180 are the lightest at 0.40 lbs.
