Supported Applications

The Omega CSH3 Series consists of ceramic-insulated, flat-surface heating elements with a seamless Type 304 Stainless Steel sheath. These channel strip heaters are designed for industrial and commercial heating applications including ovens, hot plates, dies, molds, drying processes, melting, baking, incubators, platens, food warmers, welding preheating, air heating, sealing bars, thermoforming, and tank heating.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series is rated for a maximum sheath temperature of 650°C (1200°F). Electrical specifications support a maximum voltage of 480 Vac (dependent on design parameters) with a maximum recommended voltage of 480V when using lead wire terminations. Amperage limits are defined by the termination method: Lead Wire Termination supports up to 10 amp, while Screw Terminations (10-32UNF) support up to 25 amp.

Performance ratings include a nominal watt density of 20 Watts/in² (3.1 Watts/cm²), with a maximum watt density of 45 Watts/in² dependent on design parameters. Tolerances are specified as Resistance: 10%, -5% and Wattage: 5%, -10%. The heaters feature a rectangular tube construction for heat transfer efficiency.

Configuration Options

The CSH3 Series is offered in four standard rectangular sizes with specific dimensional tolerances:

  • Widths: 16 mm (5/8"), 25 mm (1"), and 38 mm (1 1/2")
  • Thicknesses: 6 mm (1/4"), 8 mm (5/16"), and 10 mm (3/8")
  • Lengths: Customizable with tolerances of ±1/16" for lengths up to 24", and ±1/8" for lengths over 24".

The series supports various termination configurations. Screw terminal options include Type T1 (10-32 terminals at each end), Type T2 (tandem at one end), Type T3 (parallel at one end), and Type T4 (offset at one end). Lead wire terminations are available as Type L (exit from end) or Type L1 (exit from top).

Protection options include flexible lead wires with Wire braid protection (Type W1), Stainless steel braid (Type W2), Armor cable (Type R1), and Right-angle armor cable (Type R2). Terminal box configurations are available as High-Temperature Quick Disconnect Plug (Type P) or a Specially designed box welded to the heater (Type MP).

Insulating terminal protection is provided via Igloo™ ceramic covers: Type C6 (Double Port In-Line), Type C7 (Double Port 90°), and Type C8 (Single Port). A Ceramic Cap with Thread 10-32 is also available.

Key Product Differences

The series offers specific size-dependent configurations. The 16 W x 6 mm thick (5/8" x 1/4") heater is available without mounting tabs only. Heaters in sizes 25 W x 8 mm, 38 W x 8 mm, and 38 W x 10 mm are available with or without mounting tabs; however, when supplied with Type L lead wire termination, mounting tabs are not available.

Heaters with a thickness of 10 mm (3/8") feature radius corners. Mounting slot size is standard at 8 x 13 mm (5/16 x 1/2"), with special bushings available in 13 x 16 mm (1/2 x 5/8"). Heaters supplied without mounting tabs have ends silver soldered shut to prevent moisture and contaminants from entering.

can I use the Platinum series PID (OMEGA™ CS8DPT/CS8EPT) controller with this?

You can use the benchtop Controllers but you would have to use an external SSR to be able to handle the Amperage the Heater will draw. The relay only handles 3 Amps output 1 and the SSR output 2 is only rated for 5 Amps.

Can this heater be used in a 10^-6 torr vacuum environment?

These Heaters are not recommended for use in Vacuum.
