Supported Applications

The Omega AD590 is a solid-state temperature transducer designed for temperature measurement and control applications. As a two-terminal integrated circuit, it produces an output current proportional to absolute temperature without requiring linearization or amplification. Documented application areas include remote sensing, temperature compensation, flow rate measurement, surface measurements, controllers, meters, custom probes, and PC board installations.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The AD590 operates over a process temperature range of -55°C to +150°C. It requires an excitation power supply between 4 Vdc and 30 Vdc. The device provides a linear current output with a nominal temperature coefficient of 1 µA/K, resulting in a nominal current output of 298.2 µA at 25°C (298.2 K). Repeatability is specified as ±0.1°C max, and long-term drift is rated at ±0.1°C/month max.

Performance specifications vary by accuracy grade:

  • J Grade: Calibration error of ±5.0°C; Absolute Error (without external calibration adjustment) up to ±10.0°C max; Linearity of ±1.5°C for TO-52 and CQFP packages.
  • K Grade: Calibration error of ±2.5°C; Absolute Error (without external calibration adjustment) up to ±5.5°C; Linearity of ±0.8°C for TO-52 cases.

Absolute maximum ratings include a forward voltage of +44V, reverse voltage of -20V, and breakdown voltage from case to E+ or E- of ±200V. The lead temperature rating is 300°C.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable options regarding accuracy class and physical package style. Available configurations include:

  • Accuracy Classes: J (low cost) and K (increased accuracy).
  • Packages: Miniature ceramic flat pack (designated with 'F' suffix, e.g., AD590JF) and metal TO-52 case (designated with 'H' suffix, e.g., AD590KH).

The device functions as a 3-terminal component internally but is described in the series overview as a 2-terminal integrated circuit transducer. Electrical connections are provided via three leads: E+, E-, and output.

Key Product Differences

Variants within the AD590 series differ primarily by accuracy grade (J vs. K) and housing type (Flat Pack vs. TO-52 Case). The model number guide follows the pattern AD590 - Accuracy - Case Type. Specific stocked variants include:

  • AD590JF / AD590KF: Flat pack ceramic packages with J or K accuracy.
  • AD590JH / AD590KH: TO-52 metal case packages with J or K accuracy.

The 8-Lead SOIC package is referenced in the family manual specifications but is not represented by the current enabled ecommerce variants. Nonlinearity for the 8-Lead SOIC package is specified as ±1.0°C (typical) and ±1.5°C (max), distinct from the TO-52 linearity values.
