Supported Applications
The Omega TQ103 Series socket extension torque sensors are designed for installation between a socket and drive to measure or verify bolt torque. These strain gage transducers can measure torque in both clockwise and counterclockwise directions. The series is compatible with any electronic display or control device that supports strain gage inputs, including the HHP-SG handheld meter as well as DP25B-S and DP41-S panel meters.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The TQ103 Series operates within a temperature range of -65 to 250°F (-54 to 121°C), with a compensated temperature range of 70 to 170°F (21 to 76°C). Thermal effects are specified as 0.002% F.S./°F for zero and 0.002% RDG/°F for span. The sensors feature an accuracy of ±0.37% FS, with linearity, hysteresis, and repeatability values of ±0.25% FS, ±0.25% FS, and ±0.1% FS respectively.
Electrical specifications include a rated output of 1 to 3 mV/V (nominal), an excitation requirement of 10 Vdc with a maximum of 20 Vdc, and a bridge resistance of 1000 Ω. The sensors are constructed from alloy steel and feature angular deflection at full scale of 3°. Load limits are defined as 150% FS for safe operation and 300% FS ultimate.
Configuration Options
The series is available in eight distinct capacity ranges to accommodate various bolt torque requirements. Models cover capacities from 0 to 25 inch-lb up to 0 to 6000 inch-lb, corresponding to square drive sizes of 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", and 3/4".
- Drive Sizes: Available in 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", and 3/4" square drives to match standard socket wrenches.
- Capacity Ranges: Includes TQ103-25 (25 inch-lb), TQ103-50, TQ103-125, TQ103-200, TQ103-600, TQ103-1.5K (1500 inch-lb), TQ103-2.4K (2400 inch-lb), and TQ103-6K (6000 inch-lb).
- Electrical Connection: Each unit includes 0.6 m (2') of 4-conductor, shielded, color-coded cable with pigtail termination.
The wiring configuration uses a standard four-wire setup: Red for (+) Excitation, Black for (-) Excitation, Yellow for (+) Signal, and White for (-) Signal. The sensors are NIST Standard calibrated.
Key Product Differences
Variants within the TQ103 Series differ primarily by torque capacity range, square drive size, physical dimensions (Length A and Diameter B), and rated output signal strength. For example, models with 1/4" drives (TQ103-25 through TQ103-125) share a length of 3.0 inches and a diameter of ½ inch, while the highest capacity model, TQ103-6K, features a 3/4" drive with an overall length of 5.0 inches and a diameter of 1½ inches.
Rated output varies by specific range: lower capacities such as TQ103-25 provide 1.0 mV/V, while mid-range models like TQ103-600 offer up to 3.0 mV/V. The series does not include the socket; only the sensor extension is supplied.
