Supported Applications

The Omega TX60 Series comprises smart and programmable linearized transmitters designed for temperature measurement using thermocouples, RTDs, or millivolt inputs. The series includes the TX62 (Smart), TX63 (Smart with additional input types), and TX64 (Programmable) models. These units provide isolated 4 to 20 mA signals linearized to process variables in industrial environments.

Documented applications include:

  • Temperature monitoring via J, K, T, E, R, S, B, and N thermocouples
  • Resistance measurement using RTDs (100 Ω Pt 385/392, 120 Ω Ni)
  • Analog signal conditioning for millivolts, mA dc, Vdc, potentiometers, and resistance inputs
  • Remote calibration and reconfiguration via handheld terminal or RS232C interface (TX62/TX63 models only)

Operating Conditions & Performance

The TX60 Series operates within an ambient temperature range of -40 to 75°C (-40 to 167°F). Storage temperatures are rated from -50 to 85°C (-58 to 185°F). The series supports a broad measurement envelope depending on the input type:

  • Thermocouples: Ranges span from -270 to 1820°C (-454 to 3308°F) across types J, K, T, E, R, S, B, and N
  • RTDs: Measurement ranges include -200 to 850°C (-328 to 1562°F) for platinum sensors and -80 to 320°C (-112 to 608°F) for nickel RTD (120 Ω Ni)
  • Millivolt: -15 to 160 mV dc
  • mA dc: -5.0 to 60.0 mA
  • Vdc: -0.5 to 5.0 V
  • Potentiometer/Resistance: 0.0 to 1.0 kΩ (3-wire or 2/3-wire)

Accuracy varies by model and input type. For the TX64 Programmable Transmitter, accuracy is ±0.3°C (±0.5°F) for types J, K, T, E, N; ±0.8°C (±1.5°F) for R, S, B; and ±0.14°C (±0.25°F) for RTDs 100 Ω Pt. The TX62 Smart Transmitter offers higher precision at ±0.2°C (±0.36°F) for most thermocouples and ±0.1°C (±0.18°F) for platinum RTDs.

Response time is typically 0.25 seconds for analog output; digital operation achieves 95% of final value in approximately 1 second, with full stated accuracy reached within 5 seconds. Hysteresis is included in the transmitter accuracy specification.

Configuration Options

The TX60 Series supports multiple housing options including standard polycarbonate enclosures and explosion-resistant housings (TX60-ERH, TX60-ERHG with glass window). Process connections include threaded probes; a 12" Type K thermocouple probe is shown in documentation. Wetted materials available are stainless steel and nickel.

Output signals include:

  • Analog: 2-wire 4 to 20 mA
  • Digital (TX62/TX63 only): 2-wire RS232C, 300 baud via TX60-RS232C interface

Power supply requirements are 12 to 42 Vdc. Minimum supply voltage under load is calculated as Vs = 12 + R (load in kΩ) × 23 mA; for digital operation, a minimum load resistance of 250 Ω is required.

Key Product Differences

The TX60 Series differentiates models by communication capability and configuration method:

  • TX62 (Smart): Supports remote calibration, reconfiguration, and status checking via the TX60-HH handheld terminal or TX60-RS232C interface. Communication distance extends up to 1524 m (5000'). Includes analog output with optional digital communication.
  • TX63 (Smart): Similar to TX62 but supports additional input types including mA dc, Vdc, potentiometer, and resistance inputs. Also features smart communications via handheld or RS232C interface.
  • TX64 (Programmable): A programmable transmitter without built-in communication capabilities; does not require a handheld terminal for setup but lacks remote configuration options.

All models feature rugged, sealed industrial design. Optional accessories include the TX60-DISPLAY smart local display and TX60-KEYPAD two-key keyboard for local configuration and ranging. The TX60-HH is battery-operated and connects to the transmitter output; it includes a hook-up wire and 120 Vac adaptor.

Approvals include UL listed (PSR-24L) and SAMA PMC 33.1c test compliance for electromagnetic interference from 20 kHz to 1000 MHz at 10 V/meter. The series also supports OMEGACARE™ extended warranty programs, extending coverage up to five years with OCW-3.
