Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series APV Piston Vibrators utilize compressed air to generate vibration power for material flow control. The series is designed to prevent clogs on tank walls and address material delivery problems, particularly with low specific gravity and high moisture materials that tend to build up inside pipes or tanks. Direct impact models assist in removing rust and accumulated dust from the interior of piping systems.

APV-C models feature air cushioning at both ends to provide a low noise character (60-75 dBA), making them suitable for quiet area applications. APV-I models allow direct piston impact on the tank body, generating higher force and noise levels (80-115 dBA) to dislodge stubborn material.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Series APV operates within a supply pressure range of 29 to 87 psi (2 to 6 bar). The temperature limit for operation is 212°F (100°C).

Vibration frequency and force vary by model and input pressure. For example, the APV-C3 delivers frequencies ranging from 1000 V.P.M. at 29 psi (2 bar) to 1340 V.P.M. at 87 psi (6 bar), with corresponding forces of 91 lbf (404 N) and 231 lbf (1030 N). The APV-I series provides significantly higher impact force; the APV-I3 generates up to 8276 lbf (36816 N) at 87 psi (6 bar).

Air consumption rates are documented per model and pressure input. For instance, the APV-C1 consumes air ranging from 8.12 cfm (230 l/min) to 9.50 cfm (269 l/min) depending on supply pressure.

Configuration Options

The series is available in multiple configurations distinguished by housing style, connection size, and impact method:

  • Housing Material: Aluminum construction across the series.
  • Process Connections: Models APV-C1 and APV-I1 feature a 1/8" BSPT female connection with a 1/4" OD push-to-connect adapter. Models APV-C2, APV-C3, APV-I2, and APV-I3 utilize a 1/4" BSPT female connection with the same 1/4" OD push-to-connect adapter.
  • Exhaust: All models include a muffler for the exhaust port.
  • Model Families: The series includes APV-C (air cushioned) and APV-I (direct impact) variants, with size designations 1, 2, and 3 corresponding to increasing dimensions and force capabilities. An additional model designation, APV-X, is referenced in dimension tables.

Installation notes indicate that vibration force transmits more efficiently into conical hopper tanks compared to rectangular hoppers; two vibrators are recommended for rectangular configurations. The use of "U" shape steel supports and reinforced boards between the support and thin tank walls is noted to reduce tank damage and improve material flow.

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction within the Series APV lies in the cushioning mechanism and resulting performance envelope:

  • APV-C Models (Air Cushioned): These units produce air cushions at both ends of the piston stroke. This design reduces noise levels to a range of 60-75 dBA, prioritizing quiet operation while still providing vibration force suitable for preventing material build-up.
  • APV-I Models (Direct Impact): These units feature an air cushion only at the top end; the piston strikes directly against the bottom side of the body. This configuration generates higher impact forces and noise levels ranging from 80-115 dBA, intended for applications requiring strong direct impact to clear dust or accumulated material.

Physical dimensions vary by model size (C/I/X followed by 1, 2, or 3). For example, the overall length dimension A ranges from 5.43" (138 mm) for Model C1/I1 to 8.19" (208 mm) for Model C3/I3.

The Series APV is not field serviceable; units requiring repair must be returned with a return good authorization number, as attempting field repairs may void the warranty.
