Supported Applications

The Omega SDX-SET and HDX-SET series comprises Quick Disconnect Handheld Thermocouple Probes with removable handles, designed for temperature measurement in specific process environments. The documented media compatibility includes soft and semi-frozen materials, airflow applications, and most surfaces.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The probes meet or exceed Special Limits of Error (SLE) and EN 60584-2 Tolerance Class 1 accuracy standards. Measurement ranges vary by thermocouple type, with documented limits including 900°C (1650°F), 870°C (1600°F), 315°C (600°F), and 260°C (500°F). A critical operational constraint is that subjecting the sensor tip to temperatures above 315°C (600°F) will result in tip damage. The rated temperature depends on thermocouple type, sheath diameter, and environment.

Standard probes feature a stem length of 300 mm (12") with an overall length of 300 mm (12"). Sheath diameters available across the series include 1.5 mm (1/16"), 3 mm (1/8"), 4.5 mm (3/16"), 6 mm (1/4"), and 8 mm (5/16"). The retractable cable expands to a length of 1.5 m (5").

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable options across handle materials, probe types, thermocouple calibrations, and connector styles.

• Handle Types: SDX models feature a high impact plastic (ABS) handle; HDX models utilize a rugged aluminum handle. The SDX-UST plastic handle accepts both standard and miniature probes/connectors.
• Probe Configurations: Available probe types include General Purpose, Penetration, Air Probe, Fast Response, and Flexible Tip Surface Probes.
• Thermocouple Calibrations: Specify calibration Type J, K, E, or T. Custom assemblies with other lengths and diameters are available via consultation with Custom Engineering.
• Connectors: Standard electrical connection is a subminiature connector (SMP Miniature Male Connector), offered as standard/molded with strain relief or SMPW. An optional standard size connector is available by adding the suffix "-OSTW-M" to the model number.
• Included Accessories: Each set includes a free mating connector, cable clamp, and locking clip.

The wetted materials consist of 304 SS sheath and RTV silicone rubber. Special Application Tip Probes with Quick Disconnect and Integral Handle Styles are also offered in the broader product family using Special Limits of Error material.

Key Product Differences

Differences within the series are defined by handle construction, probe tip geometry, and connector options:

• SDX-SET vs. HDX-SET: The primary distinction is the housing material; SDX models use high impact plastic handles while HDX models utilize rugged aluminum handles.
• Probe Tip Styles: General Purpose (GP), Penetration (NP), Air Probe (AP), Fast Response (RT), and Flexible Tip Surface (FSP) probes address different measurement geometries. Integral Handle styles are available under QD-(PROBE_TYPE)-12 or HPS-(PROBE_TYPE)-12 model patterns.
• Connector Suffixes: Models ending in "-SMP" feature the standard subminiature connector. Variants with the suffix "-OSTW-M" (or similar) indicate an optional standard size connector configuration.
