Supported Applications

The Omega SDX and HDX series provides probe handles with retractable cables designed for handheld thermocouple probes. These accessories create a fast, easily connected system of handheld probes suitable for a broad range of temperature measurement applications.

Operating Conditions & Performance

Sensing elements can be quickly changed or replaced in the field without tools. The series features strain-relieved retractable cables that are available with 0.5 m (1') of cable length, which stretches to 1.5 m (5'). The HDX aluminum handle is supplied for probe lengths over 600 mm (24").

Connector Configurations

The series supports multiple connector types in the handle and on the cable:

• HDX Aluminum Handles: Available with 2-prong, 3-prong connectors; miniature (SMP); phone plug; or TA3F† configurations.
• SDX Plastic Handles: Feature a universal connector in the handle that accepts standard and miniature sizes. Cable options include 2-prong, miniature, and phone plug.

Note: For models with the TA3FL cable option (HDX-OTP-U-TA3FL), lead "1" is connected to the red RTD prong (small diameter end prong). Other wiring configurations are available upon request.

Configuration Options

The series offers two primary housing materials and various thermocouple type compatibilities:

• Housing Materials: High-Impact Plastic (ABS) for the SDX series; Cast Aluminum for the HDX heavy-duty handles.
• Cable Replacement: The strain-relieved retractable cable can be replaced by other types of thermocouple wire.

Thermocouple Calibration Codes

The model number guide supports the following calibration codes for insert selection:

• J = Iron-Constantan
• T = Copper-Constantan
• U = Uncompensated Copper
• K = CHROMEGA®-ALOMEGA®
• E = CHROMEGA®-Constantan

Key Product Differences

The SDX and HDX series are distinguished by housing material, connector type in the handle, and cable termination.

• HDX Series (Aluminum): Offers specific 2-prong or 3-prong connectors within the handle. Model examples include HDX-OST-K-SMP-M for a Type K probe with a miniature connector on an aluminum handle.
• SDX Series (Plastic/ABS): Utilizes a universal handle that accepts both standard and miniature sizes, paired with 2-prong, miniature, or phone plug cable connectors. Model examples include SDX-UST-K-SMP-M.

Safety clips are available separately (order SFCL, pkg of 10). Thermocouple probes with built-in USB connectivity are also offered.
