Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series 165 PRECISOR® II Pneumatic and Electro-Pneumatic Positioners are designed for the linear operation of pneumatic valve actuators. The series supports control systems utilizing analog output signals, specifically 3 to 15 psig (0.2 to 1 bar) for pneumatic models or 4-20 mA DC for electro-pneumatic variants. These units are engineered for harsh environments and are documented for use in chemical processing, food and beverage, pulp and paper, and pharmaceutical industries.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The Series 165 delivers precise positioning with a linearity of ±0.2% FS, hysteresis of 1% FS, sensitivity of ±0.2% FS, and repeatability of ±0.5% FS. The positioners operate with an air supply range of 20 to 100 psig (1.4 to 6.9 bar) for the pneumatic model, while the electro-pneumatic variant supports up to 101 psig (7.0 bar). Air consumption is rated at 0.10 scfm (3 LPM) at 20 psig (1.4 bar) supply, with a flow capacity of 28 scfm (80 LPM) at 20 psig (1.4 bar) supply.
Ambient operating temperatures vary by enclosure material: aluminum models operate from -4 to 158°F (-20 to 70°C), while stainless steel versions extend the lower limit to -40 to 158°F (-40 to 70°C). The series features an IP66 (NEMA 4X) enclosure rating. Stroke capability ranges from 0.5 to 6" (10 to 150 mm).
Configuration Options
The Series 165 is available in two primary configurations: the pneumatic linear positioner (Series 165NL) and the electro-pneumatic linear positioner (Series 165EL). The series supports configurable enclosure materials, including Aluminum diecasting or 316 SS. Key connection specifications include:
- Air Supply Connection: 1/4" NPT
- Gage Connection: 1/8" NPT
- Electrical Connection (165EL only): Screw terminal with a load resistance of 250 ±15 Ω
- Conduit Connection (165EL only): 1/2" NPT
The series supports split ranges and can be easily changed from direct to reverse action. Agency approvals include CE compliance for the 165EL model only. Mounting kits are available as accessories (models A-233, A-234, A-235, A-236) for specific actuator models.
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes between pneumatic and electro-pneumatic operation. The 165NL model accepts a 3 to 15 psig (0.2 to 1 bar) input signal, while the 165EL and 165EL-SS models accept a 4-20 mA DC electrical input.
Housing variations affect physical dimensions and weight. The standard aluminum version of the 165NL measures approximately 8-3/4" (225.30 mm) wide, 6-9/16" (166.69 mm) high, and 4-9/16" (115.89 mm) deep, weighing 3.1 lb (1.7 kg). The electro-pneumatic aluminum version weighs 6.1 lb (2.7 kg). Stainless steel versions are available for the 165EL model, increasing weight to 12.6 lb (5.7 kg).
